4.6 or 5.4 with blower, I think the thing I would like most is a "clean motor" all the wiring, vacuum lines hidden. Something I could drive everyday and still abuse.
OK, Car is 88 Turbocoupe with 302 swap, these problems were before the swap as well. The tc sat for 10 years in boxes when I got it. The dash was laying in the floor and none of the switches were in the dash. I pulled everything from a donor and put it back together and it behaved in that, the dinger worked and the blinkers worked, but the inside indicator for the blinkers does not. Sometimes the inside indicator for the right blinker does work. The harness going to the ignition switch caught fire once but that has since been fixed, and the dinger may or may not worked at that point. Now it works occasionally but is faint.Mice have chewed some of the wires as well. Am I having a grounding problem? Everything else works in the car, all switches, radio, moonroof, interior lights.
Its Coast's 331 kit with afr 185's 58cc and comp XE 264 cam (think that is all right info may be wrong somewhere)
I only ran at the track once and did a 9.33 with a 1.5 reaction, spun off the line and walked sideways into second. That is my first and only time at the track, 1/8th mile btw.
Recently I picked up a 2000 explorer engine + trans with complete engine and body harness for 300 dollars. It is supposed to be low milage. The tail housing is for 4wd but I found an AODE tail housing and shaft for 50 dollars. From where I'm standing what would be best to put into my 88 bird (331 stroker carb'd lots of down low torque that wraps out around 5500) 3.73 gears. The car is meant to be a driver. Currently I'm rocking a full manual VB c4 but it chirps the tires everygear change and has little to no town manners.
Full plans for the car are semi often driver that powers around curves, straight line is secondary. Gas milage would be nice, doing blower and fuel injection on it in the next few months (fuel injection any way, blower will have to wait my compression ratio is a little high)
I can get a full manual VB for the 4r70w for 625 or a controller will cost me around the same + 500 dollars for a high performance VB. So looking at 1-1500 range for controller, or 625 manual VB (which I'm iffy about controlling 4th and lockup with a switch)
I can buy a wide gear ratio broader performance built AOD for 1900 (no torque convertor this way so add that to cost)
I can buy a different aod from them minus the wide gear set for 1600.
I'm open to suggestions. If the transmission doesn't get used, then it and explorer motor are going in 88 ranger.
If I neglectad info let me know, just kinda throwing this together as I think of it.
Ya, My headers have a bung on them already, CTS I think is in an intake, IAT is in intake and TPS will be on TB so I think all will be added on when I swap whatever top end I can to it.
How involved is that? I planned on running it on the lift and just popping c clips off and taking axles off, kinda new and unknown territory for the trac lock rebuild.
I'm very interested in this, I have a 88 TC same color as yours I just did a 331 swap (carb) in. Looking to do engine side 5.0 harness and go fuel injection. I also think there is WAY to much wiring inside as well as under the hood.
I have a whine coming form the back end when making low speed turns... I thought it was a brake dragging but thats all knew and greased slides now. Can it be a axle bearing or something?
Well its fixed, little worried, ended up changed my blinker switch and headlight switch, everything works except the right blinker bulb doesn't light up in the cluster nor the hi beam light.....
thanks for the schematic. Looks like the only common link is the cluster though. And no the flashers are dead. According to owners book number 4 in pic is fuse for it, but I checked it and it was good. I'll check again to make sure I'm not a noob.
I pulled my instrument cluster apart to change the resistor on my tach (v8 swap, now it reads correct) when I was getting it back in I snapped an ear off the plug that snaps into the back of the cluster, but it still plugged in snug. Now my cluster works but no lights, no blinkers on it or outside the car. I checked all the fuses. I did notice I broke one of the bulbs off the back when I was putting it in, does it complete the circuit of something? Car is an 88 turbo coupe. I haven't had a chance to pull it apart since it has been pouring and will continue till Thursday but wouldn't mind a direction to head. Thanks
