My last two tanks of gas both gave me a squeak over 22 mpg.  I think that's darn good for a MN-12.

Lounge / Remember when...
What ever we get I guess.:burnout:

In my orginal post however I meant 312, 352 and 430.  Oh well memory goes with age too.:disappoin  My brother had a 56 Ford with the 312, it said Thunderbird on the valve covers.

Remember when it was a big deal to have a Thunderbird engine in your everday Ford sedan?

Ok I realize that I'm one of the old ones here that really does remember when.;)

Up until the mid to late 60's when you got a 312, 390 4V, 428/429 in you Galaxie or Country Sedan etc. the valve covers said "Thunderbird".

So how come folks here say that Thunderbird/Cougars share parts with Mustangs?  Oh not so fast, I say that Mustangs share parts with Thunderbirds and Cougars.

Engine Tech / 232 way rich, no power, falls on face
When they go way rich start looking for a big vacuum leak before buying parts.  Especially check the large tube and hose assy that's on the back of the CFI.  Then check all the other vacuum lines.  They break easy.  Once you are sure that there's no leaks then troubleshoot for sensors.  A vacuum leak will force a rich condition.

I learned the hard way.

Over the last 4 months I've repair both window motors, disassembled and repaired both door lock switches, the mirror switch, the fog light switch, replaced all the front suspension with Moog parts, alignment and new tires.  Who knows how much labor money I saved but all that cost me $1,275 doing all the labor myself.  The front end was simple, simple, simple.  (no rust).

Suspension/Steering / Soft brake question....
I had that problem on the 85.  So, I figured air.  When I went to bleed the brakes I couldn't get any fluid out of the rears.  It turned out to be the master cylinder.

Some people say the V6 IS the spoiler.

I also own a 2001 Escort ZX2 that my daughter has custody of.  What a hot rod!  Even with the auto tranny that car scoots and beats the battle at the pump too.  Pretty darn close to 30mpg in town.  But, not when it scoots.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Door Lock actuator
Holy !  I thought I'd be smart and look them up at AutoZone.  $237 there!  I guess Ford is the bargain basp00get price this time.  Either that or some member here may sell you one cheap.  Sorry mine are spoken for.  (Installed and working)

So, I did the math.

92 Tbird paid for:
  Insurance:  $190 per year
  7500 miles per year = 375 gallons(20 mpg) @ $4 per gallon = $1500

Total cost less repairs = $1,690

2010 Prius:
  Insurance:  $650 per year
  7500 Miles per year = 166 gallons (45 mpg) @ $4 per gallon = $664
Payments with $5,000 down is $350 per month = $4,200 per year.

Total cost less repairs $5,504 per year

The difference of $19,070 over 5 years will by me a whole lot of gas.  So, it makes no financial sense to run out and buy a new gas saving car.  Even if I spend an average of $1,000 per year in maintenance $14,070 will still buy a whole lot of gas.  @ $5 per gallon it would buy me 2,814 gallons of gas.
