Audio & Other Aftermarket Electronics / don't understang this new stuff help
sharing the car with my son, interesting problems.

radio upgrade, for xmas got the boy some stereo stuff to put in the bird.
am/fm cd head unit with pull off face. got the wire harness to connect to my original harness. added 2 speakers to the door panels.
ran an extra set of rca wires to the trunk.
heres the deal.
connected all the wires to the harness. now  have six speakers working. 4  4 " on the front circut 2 6 X 9 on the back works well. ran the two wires with rca jacks from the head unit to the trunk and added an amp with a kicker box (6 speakers) and a bass tube.
the amp powers up but no sound from the kickers or bass. made a quick jumper from the rear speakers (working) both the kicker and bass play (low volume). then for giggles jumped to the amp with the standard speakers ( ah ha) now the amp drives the kicker and bass for about 45 seconds then cuts out. if i run the amp through the rca plugs do i need to not run standard speaker wires? Can you mix and match with powered (standard) speakers and the RCA preouts from the head unit or is it all one or all the other? is the head unit defective? is there a way to put a resistor in the wires so i won't over drive the amp? should i get a multichannel amp and run all the speakers off the amp? when i put a similar set up in my daughters car (chevy) the front speakers run directly from the head unit but the rears and bass run off the amp,

Drivetrain Tech / t/c rear questions again
i think i've located a decent rear. local pick and pull has a t/c with rear in it has around 60K miles. in doing this swap what do i need to take off the donor car.
is there any master cylinder diffence?
do i need a proportioning valve or a diffrent one.
how about steel lines and hoses?
drive shaft diffrences?
control arm mounting arm differences?

thanks in advance
you guys have helped every time so far

Engine Tech / Mpg
the bird has 95K miles on the clock. i share the car with my teenage son  (no job or car until his grades meet my standards) most of the recent driving (past 10k miles has been around town. We are west coast of FL no hills no excessive cold spells no excessive heat. right on the coast. when i drive the car full time i can get the dash computer to post an average of around 14.4 mpg. he drives less distance than me (less than 2 miles to school) and does most of the honey please go get me's that i used to do. the average is now around 13.2 MPG. This seems to be about the sames as the wifes 6 cyl mini-van. Somes of the post i've read on this and other sites seem to indicate that alot of folks are get in the high teens or low 20's.

any ways to boost MPG??

Lounge / Did i spend too much??
My 87 Lx starting making a funny noise in the right front. It's kinda of a high pitched warble sound. I stopped at the local auto parts place and had the guy behind the counter (he's been real helpful before) drive the car around the parking lot and see if he could tell me what it is.
Being a newbie to this i'm trying to learn. Well he got of the car and said " i think i can fix you up" he spent several minutes looking in books and making a few phone calls.
It turns out my brakes are old and dry and need to be relubricated. He was out of Ford style brake grease, and told me the standard or GM version wouldn't last that long. He said he could order some in air freight from the home office. 1 case of 12 cans of Ford style brake grease in aersol cans plus freight cost me $135.00  thats like almost $12.00 a can. As he said i should grease the brakes every 2 months at 1 can per wheel this would only last me about 6 months. I haven't seen anything on any of the boards about getting it cheaper any where else, so I thought i'd ask.
Well, just finished spraying the rear brakes shoes and the front pads, the spray brake grease is kinda thick but real slipppery. I'll let you all know if it fixed the squealing noise, going out to test drive after i finish this note. figures i'd hit the interstate and try some high speed passes. :toilet:

Electrical Tech / Re: Digital woes
also check the dash light relay, the're about $25.00 at napa
on my 87 it was located near the center of the dash just to the right of the sterring wheel, there is a stack of 3 or 4 of them. my lights would go our or stay on intermittently till i changed it

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / lots of data
/www.alldatadiy.com
its a pay per year subscription prices are cheaper for multiple cars
lots of tech info with wiring diagrams and ford recall data has been very helpful getting rid of electrical gremlins

not advocating anything just letting you alll know that the resource is there.

Lounge / Re: Just.. disgusting.
i read the "affadavit" on this site and the local papers, i live about three miles from the hospice. When this "Nurse" was called in to testify or by local radio shows or news papaer reporters she recanted  a lot of the story and admitted that alot of her claims were second hand.

the big arguement is wheter the husband is truley carrying out his wifes wishes or not. Micheal had turned down serious cash offers to walk away. He has been told that he could get an immediate no fault divorce, there is no money left in the trust fund.

I beleive he is trying to carry out his wifes request not to be kept alive artificailly. Having gone through simialr cirspoogestance with an older relative i know that it is tuff for all parties involved

87 LX
thanks guys read all the post to date. i think i have a plan of attack.  Fix A/C new condensor no used stuff.  Poly bushing on front end then Intake silencer, H.O. upper, unequal headers and 2 1'2 duals as a first step. Then i'll try to hook up on a T/C rear. Still debating rear end ratio, i've been told 3:25 is enough to wake up the car and still kepp decent milage, others said go all the way to 3:55 i'll only notice the milage change on long hiway trips. Any advice
thanks
