Most of us are backyard tinkerers. If I made 7+ figures a year and had all the free time in the world I would be popping cars out of the garage left and right. I think the renzo's didnt know the difference between pride and proud. You work on ferrari's? thats cool dude. I just want to wreck one, just to say I did. I think they were waaaaaay to proud of what they had done that they couldnt see the pride we take in what we've done. Its a fine line ya know? Just because you've slated the "tried and true" method, doesn't mean there isn't another way to do it all together.

I've got a decent chunk sunk into my turd, its uglier than a mud fence and it only runs about half the time but it shes getting there:hick: If anybody
came to me with a question on how I did this or that I'd gladly tell them. Maybe they could take it and make it work for them. I sure as hell ain't going to tell them that's how its GOT TO BE.

I think that was the renzo's biggest faults. They'd tell you how its s'posed to be done, which isn't necessarily the easiest way of going about it, and when someone out foxed them, they got all butthurt about it.

I'm glad to see some of the veterans of the forum are starting to come back around feels like a flashback to 2004.

Yeah not all of us(actually I'd be surprised if anyone does) live by the statement in Renzo's sig, "I build cars with money I don't have to impress people I don't know"...

I've charged a few things for my cars, but nothing I couldn't pay off in two or three months(Hell I've only financed four vehicles in my life, still own two of those), main difference is I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks, I built it for myself...

^  like.

I am the same way.  I like the tbirds and cougars because around here they are more rare then a Ferrari or lambo. And I like surprising mustangs and camaros at the strip

Exactly right. This Mustang I'm working on...it's nothing hot, or special. Just a GT40-ized 5.0 HO bottom end, will have an E cam soon, and a Cobra intake topping it off.

I don't care if it impresses 25, one, or none. It's mine and I did most of the work to date on it, save for putting the springs in the heads. I went with a mild "build" because I knew that assembled correctly, it would give reliable power, a bit more than stock, and not cost me 3,000 dollars. It will be plenty fast for me for awhile...and later on there's always the definite possibility of a little boost.

Yeah, I've got a thread on it, but it's not to stroke my ego. If I feel like I need to be fluffed up, I've got other skillsets that are much more developed than my ability to put a few puzzle pieces together in a proper sequence.

Renzo can build a hotrod (maybe..wouldn't quite swear to it, myself) but I bet i can outshoot him, and with a hunting knife, I'm pretty ed good at gutting and peeling deer and such.

Then again, I've only been shooting since I was 6 years old...but don't take my word for it...ask 88turbo here in a few weeks...we're gonna meet up again, and go "hunt" some paper plates that have an apparent death wish. :D

I'll leave the tales of my ability with a Walther and a Winchester up to him...I got out of the bragging stage concerning bullet placement before I was into my teens. ;)

One other thing...I can play a meaner air guitar than most, too. Getting me to actually do it however takes more alcohol than I ever plan to drink again, so you'll just have to believe me on that one LOL.

You guys all realize you're trying to justify your hobby to somebody who (a) is now gone, (b) doesn't care, and (c) doesn't matter, right? We all like the cars we like because we like them, and I don't think many of us really care about the opinions of others, as Tom pointed out. If we did we'd all be lasting after Camaros and Mustangs instead of 80's T-Birds & Cougars.

Tom should have added a little bit to that "money I don't have, etc" signature. Something about "cars I don't own".

If Rezno's measure of success is working on other people's expensive cars I pity him. I've just spent the morning working on a quarter million dollar tractor. That's more expensive than most Ferraris and Lambos. And because I work on it, that makes me as rich and important than the guy that owns it, right? ....right? Should I start posting pics of the cars (and tractors) I work on so you'll all think I'm cool? Actually, don't answer that - I work at a honda dealership, so cars that impress are few and far between...

I've got 2 Case 1270's, a Ford 4000 gas, a Ford 5000 diesel, an 8N, and a Centennial. Not to mention 4 John Deere combines.

They may not all be worth as much a Ferrari, but I can I can tell you the google earth coordinates if you want to see them for yourself LOL.

"Oh, you have a $50,000 Corvette that you drive 6 months out of the year?
Bitch, please. We have 300,000 dollar combines we drive for two weeks every fall."

"Bitch, please"

I just pictured an old farmer, in a flannel shirt and John Deer hat, leaning against a 6ft-tall tractor tire, grabbing his nuts, spitting his tobacco on the ground and saying "Bitch, please!" with a nice southern tschlong. And then I LOL'd to myself.

That'd would be my dad, except he'd never have the imagination to say bitch, please, and getting him to talk whatsoever usually involves an act of congress. No southern accent, either..lol.

This is a meaningful statement within the scope of this forum...FAMILY rather!!!....but the sad truth is that this is a microcosm for a much bigger population. And it's the difference between real enthusiasts and those are are just trying to make a profit but "like" cars. And that right there is a black-white dichotomy, we all know there are shades of grey in between (no I'm not making the reference you think I am shadaap!!! :D )

But we've ALL experienced "ridicule" or questioning of our vehicle choice, regardless of our available resources. ESPECIALLY for those here that have plenty of money to throw around on toys. "Whydja buy...that?" We have to justify our enthusiasm at least some of the time, and it's not always easy. I can't count how many people are impressed with the creature comfort of my cougar and with the overall package. But that rear window remains polarizing and will surely always be. The TBirds solve that problem but so many people will ask "Well why not a Mustang? Lose that dead weight!" And still others just "don't get it". They never knew the car existed and can't imagine why one would go out of one's way to find it.

So no, do we care what this guy thinks? No. But do we care what the general public thinks? Yes, maybe secretly, but you do. Don't deny it ;) We're all a bit "strange" in the eyes of many. And there shouldn't be anything wrong with marching to the beat of a different drum. This is as old a discussion as life itself. But the struggle continues on as societies effect a general convergence and conformity to some set of common ideas and values. If you don't ever for even a moment wonder if you "belong", great! You're strong-willed. I admit that I can't always do that, and sometimes wonder if I should just be doing what the "in-crowd" does because they seem so full of themselves and having such a good time slapping each others' backs.

But then I remember how much I enjoy being me. I can't be anything else and I don't want to be. And it's a  good thing this place exists so other people can help me be ME and encourage my bizzare behavior. So far, it's done just that, time and again!!! And I hope I do a good job of likewise returning the favor.
