It's no better to see in person, the glare is tremendous off that paint. That's the shiniest black I've ever seen, or painted.

No need for bb/cc with a solid color.

The engine compartment looks awesome!! I think a single stage in there is just fine too, but why not a bc/cc for the exterior? We painted my son's TC a solid color (black) and we used bc/cc on that. We plan on doing the same with our current project TC when we paint that.

It's actually the same thing as the clear coat in a bc/cc paint job. Just eliminating the base stage.
It also has a warmer deeper finish with a solid color. I can put more coats on and not worry about breaking through the finish when I sand and buff, like with a clear.
The only way to describe it is.... it has that old school lacquer feel about it compared to a bc/cc paint. If I did a 2 tone or a metallic, I would have used base and clear.

The other problem with bc/cc, is if there's a problem that you don't see, like a scratch. The clear will magnify it with every coat that is applied . Less noticable with a solid color paint, because it will keep filling a scrarch, and be gone (or almost) after you sand, and buff it smooth. Single stage has a lot of advantages if you know how to work it. And it's all preference I guess. ;)
Not saying any one is better, just the look i'm going for.

sorry to hijack but with the base/clear all in one what kind of prep work is needed? I know you still have to block the entire car but does it need primer or can just spots of primer where there was some work done be ok? Plus im going from a light color to a somewhat darker color will that effect it in anyway?

John
As with any painting, It's not really necessary to prime the whole car.
But if you changing a color, It's usually best to prime or seal the entire care with the same 1 color. this way you won't get tint variations where the primer was compared to the old paint. It will also depend on the color of your primer too. I like to use a dark gray or black primer under dark colors. and light under light colors. it helps on the paint coverage and bleed through of a contrasting primer color.
I'm using a black epoxy primer under my black paint.
Are you painting your car? or having it done?

im thinking of tackeling this myself. once the rockers are in place that is. So basically id have to seal it even though its white? Also the color im thinking about using is about 2 or 3 shades darker the paint color is called titanium grey. and id like to seal it up anyway so its protected from any moisture and rust.

This weeks picture show.
not really much, due to the pool rebuilding I'm doing

and the front end is back on ready to be aligned again.

And of course the pool
I reconstructed the shape and now I'm stripping the old paint off the coping, so it can be repainted.
