yeah, its not like the guy took a  super low mile mint turbo coupe and swapped some used junk into it like last week. that would be a little nuts.....

I'll admit, when I saw that car this is exactly what I thought it was. I was ranting and raving at home about all this when my wife said "You stopped looking at the pictures when you saw the engine. It's like you couldn't watch." She's right. I thought this was a 5000 mile car that was heavilly altered 20 years down the road. That's my mistake.

That's why I said asshole. I should have read further, but I didn't want to see any more. If he were a member of the board or ever had any chance of seeing my post I would not have said that.

But the fact remains that these cars are being bought in mint condition and are becoming either parts cars or the cookie cutter Mustang powered ex-TurboCoupes. The engine was the entire point of this car, so to see that happen over and over and over and over again gets disheartening. So I get wound up. That's my personality, and I make no appologies for it. I will appologise for jumping the gun and not getting the whole story before storming off. I know better.

The day will come when the only 2.3 powered TC's look like mine or sit rotting in a jy. Won't that be a sack of shiznit.

Is it just me, or does it appear as if the console is out of an 83-86 T-bird? I say this because the Console lid appears to be the thicker type with the groove down the middle that is on the older 83-86 T-birds/Cougars.

Maybe the original lid cracked...it technically should have the flat-style lid, although I have seen the thicker lid on 1987-88 cars.

The 1983-84, and 1985-86, consoles were all full length (touched the back seat) and made the cars rated for 4 passengers. Only the 1987-88 consoles were shorter (flush with the front seat backs), allowing 5 passenger ratings. So if this console is full length then it was transplanted. Otherwise it's stock with a different lid.

Saw an 87 Cougar LS factory fitted with a console and the tall lid once.

Ya know the car has a '91 HO which means it has forged pistons. So if someone wanted to they could add twin turbos to it. Then it would be a sort of "Turbo Coupe";)

The front pieces on the full-length ones are longer as well. That's a transplant lid.

That being said, I bought a 220,000 mile 87 TC (Blue/blue 5-Speed) from the original owner and it had a split pad as well. Maybe the really early ones were like that?
