one thing id like to say here:

Regarding Barrett-Jackson:

Compared to modifieds/customs/resto-mods original cars mean almost NOTHING there. Its sad but it is true, that car would likely pull more than a stock TC!
1987 20th Anniversary Cougar, 302 "5.0" GT-40 heads (F3ZE '93 Cobra) and TMoss Ported H.O. intake, H.O. camshaft
2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...
1988 Black XR7 Trick Flow top end, Tremec 3550
1988 Black XR7 Procharger P600B intercooled, Edelbrock Performer non-RPM heads, GT40 intake AOD, 13 PSI @5000 RPM. 93 octane

Three things, people:

1) The wheels are going to fall off the Barrett-Jackson bandwagon any day now. It's a fad. Happened in the early 1990's, then the late 90's, and now in the mid-00's. Muscle cars as an "investment" rotate in cycles. The only reason B-J ever got as big as it is, is because of the NASCAR--I mean, Speed Channel. So if you're still using B-J as the measuring stick for what is the proper selling point for a vehicle...you're a Butthole with a capital 'B'. ;)

2) As pointed out, this whole 5.0-in-a-TC thing was done in 1993-ish. I couldn't get anyone at the dealership to give me the frickin' time of day in 1993. Nobody wanted to help out the lowly Cougar dude with his SEFI 5.0-in-a-Cougar scenario. The fact that this car even happened at all says to me that this owner a) knew the right people, and b) talked with his wallet open. Props to him for that much, at least, no matter what you think of the car.

3) It's summer. The sun is shining. The weather is beautiful. This is what we've been waiting for all winter long. How about going outside and turning a few wrenches instead of being a Butthole on a message board.

wow guys. just wow.this whole thread is getting entirely blown all out of proportion. This is why I like this forum. It has board unity. We all get along nicely. (for the most part) BE it 2.3t or 5.0 it still looks better than some of our cars. thats motivation... what if it wasnt completely stock? If you all saw a time slip would you judge it? I like the 2.3 its a good motor... but having the balls to do that swap that early? Thats ludicris. Maybe if it hadnt been for that perticular car (being it true that it had the 5.0 swap done in the early 90's) We wouldnt be together on this board. If and I mean IF this car hadnt had the 2.3 chucked and the inspiration to pop a 5.0 in it thought up.... we wouldnt be arguing.

Different strokes for different folks. Its all in your individuality. Everybody is entitled to an opinion but you've gotta know when to stop.

C'mon guys. What are we? a mustang board? These cars bring us all together. Don't let them tear us apart. God, its only metal.

But I always thought that DOES mean my car is fast

Actually, my friend came over this evening and we got my grandma's computer hooked up for her.  Then on the way to the movie theater, some guy in a brand new Civic decided to have his gf in the passenger seat yell over at us (she had a REALLY annoying voice too), and he apparently wanted to race.  Another one bites the dust.  I swear that Civics must be like insects...theyre EVERYWHERE!
