ok heres the deal. township came by today and said car has got to be registered and inspected within 30 days or it's getting towed. I paid almost 900 for it asking $450. it starts up and idles good.. may need a tune up. needs brake work I know probably wheel cylinders not sure never checked it out. dash has been taken apart!!! have new digital gauges coming.. will include in sale. Everything is still there. would be an awesome parts car everything except dash is in real great shape.. well except seats. need to sell soon.
I'll be hitting the yard this weekend if it doesn't rain, but if someone could tell me what relay I need that goes to the dash prior to that I'll just buy it new.
These relays are behind the center console behind dash area. I had one that was hanging down and didn't think it went to anything. Found out it does. it is suppose to supply my dash lights with power.
it's hard to explain where they are bu they clip up to the right side of the drivers foot well area. there should be two Grey ones and a black one.
was in the J yard the other day, only saw (1) 87 cougar. then as I was leaving I noticed that the early 90's continental had headlights shaped like ours. so I started searching... hmmm.. our headlights have FORD 22v 16 H stamped at bottom right, continentals also have Ford 22V 16H also stamped at bottom right. Just a heads up if you find a cont. with good headlights in a JY you may want to snap them up.. as they can't be bought anywhere either like ours. or at least as far as I have found. If some one knows of a source for new ones please let me know I need them bad.:D
Where can I find a new headlight switch for my cougar? it's the kind with the flip switch not the push pull type and has the dimmer wheel built into it.? I checked advanced auto parts, auto zone and pep boys. no luck they all have the push pull type listed. thanks GB
Hey. just bought myself a 1987 Merc. cougar. 5.0L automatic. runs like a raped ape. can't stop on a dime yet more like an airport runway lol. List of things that need fixin: turn signals don't work.. fronts come on and stay on rears nothing brakes as stated go almost to floor.. will be doing complete brake overhaul. no sense going fast if you can't stop know what i mean. minor surface rust outside... i'm sure there alot in trunk. head liner gauges don't light up. i can see the gauges work.. just real dim.... door locks lock but don't unlock. windows go up but come off track when going down. need doudble sided sticky tape to hold onto plastic track pieces. ohh and a short somewhere that drains battery after a day or two. other than that. not a bad find for $550. the drive train alone is worth that.:burnout:
