Engine Tech / Is this the sign of a blown head gasket? LOL
Don't worry too much...water is a natural by-product of the internal combustion engine seeing as it relies on fuel (Hydro-carbons) and air (Oxygen); water is H2O so the chances of your engine producing water are pretty good. Tack on a Catalytic Converter and the effect is magnified.

Drivetrain Tech / Explorer 8.8 Swap
One of my auto teachers has a spare 8.8 limited-slip diff out of an Explorer that he is going to give me. I was wondering what the specs are on sizing and such. I cant find online anywhere that'll tell me how wide my 7.5" out of my '83 T-Bird and how wide said Explorer rear end is. I do not know the year yet.

Engine Tech / Head gasket failure?

no its not.
compression test then physical inspection/verification.

blackberries and electronic gizmos dont do everything.

Did you just compare an Exhaust Gas buttstuffyzer to a Blackberry? Can't remember the last time my phone gave me a HC, CO or a NOx reading...

Engine Tech / Head gasket failure?
Go to an auto shop and use an exhaust gas buttstuffyzer to sniff the coolant for hydrocarbons in your coolant-most definitive method of diagnosing a head gasket.

Engine Tech / Mustang Shorty Headers?
Or if anybody can explain any mods that I would have to make in order to make them work, that would be appreciated.

Engine Tech / power steering pump
while its running take a wire brush to the underside (side that touches the pulley) of your belt to rule out that it is the belt and not the pump.

Engine Tech / Engine Upgrade Help
My 'Bird is my daily driver, but I want a car that I can shamelessly take to the strip on a High School Drag day, or street legals night but also be able to have a relatively uniform power curve where if I will have at least a decent Autocross car. Sounds complicated I know but I think you'll understand; I just want more performance that doesn't hamstring me into one particular type of motorsport. My 'Bird is and '83 and I KNOW that it is NOT rollerized...and to keep the costs down I don't really want to go to a roller cam.

Engine Tech / Engine Upgrade Help
So, what started as simply doing the head gasket has now expanded to me wanting to basically rebuild the entire top end of my 'Bird. SO: I'm putting on a 4bbl intake and carb from an '85 Mustang and will be doing a valve-grind job, but now I kind of want to go whole hog and do the timing chain. And so I figure if I'm doing that I might as well throw in a cam, and if I'm doing that I might as well throw in new lifters and so on...What I was hoping for was for some insight into what I should look for in terms of cam grinds/brands/lifters, etc. I would like to know what you guys/gals have done.

Yes 83 & 84's built for Canada came with carbs. Not sure about 85's.

That's actually pretty cool to know thanks.

I am guessing this is a Canadian car that has a 2 bbl carb and an AOD?
Maybe you can adapt your existing TV cable to the 4bbl carb.
In any case you will want to search on here for the TV adjustment procedure so you don't damage your AOD.

So did Canadian T-Birds come with the 2 bbl stock? I had thought that the fact that the TBI system was gone in favour of a true carb meant that the engine had been rebuilt. Yes it is a Canadian 'Bird.
