Engine Tech / Still having an issue...UPDATE...
You mentioned that you doesn't have any EGR, true?
Because this sounds like that you have gunked up EGR system.
A throughly clean of the whole EGR system usually will correct these type of problems.

Suspension/Steering / AC eliminator
I will pull out the AC in my 88 T-bird with 5.0.
I'm thinking of using FMS M-8511-A50 which moves the power steering pump to the place of AC compressor.
This kit is for Mustang 5.0.
Does anyone have any experience with this kit?
Will it fit for the T-bird 88?

Engine Tech / Headers full-lenght fitment for 5.0l
I have a T-bird -88 with 5.0l.
I'm looking for a set of full-length headers to replace the Ford racing shorty headers.
I know that there is problem with fitment of some of the shorty headers for mustang due to different motor mounts.
Any one that knows for fact which full-length headers that will fit.

Drivetrain Tech / Column to floor shift help
For me the pin came out quite easily, with a punch. If I remember correct it can be taken out in either direction (up or down).
Don't forget to take off the plastic lever which was used for the gear selection indicator.
The hardest part I had was to break off the shifter linkage in the engine compartment.

Drivetrain Tech / T5 is in, got a question for those of you who have done the swap...
Exactly, this is what's look like on a T-bird with floor shift.
The modification you did is very close what I did when I installed a T56.
The tunnel is higher, wider and flat on the top.
The one with column shifter is lower and more rounded.
On the picture to the right (I only see 2 pictures). To the left of the shifter some of the cutout of the original tunnel is seen. In front of shifter, just before the screw that's on the tunnel. There is the hump of approx. 0.6" and imagine when there are a even bigger hump further back.

Drivetrain Tech / T5 is in, got a question for those of you who have done the swap...
I have recently made a conversion from column to floor shifter on my sons -88 T-bird.
The floor is different. I know for sure mine (-88 T-bird) came with floor shifter and my sons with column shifter from the factory.
For the floor shifts Ford cut a big hole and then welded in a whole new piece of prefabricated sheetmetal.
The end result is that with original floor shifter is the floor higher, approx 1.2" in the back and approx 0.6" in the front.
I duplicated this on my sons car, so the shifter will be positioned correct in the console.

Drivetrain Tech / Brake convertion 4 to 5 lug
Thanks for the responce.
Now I understand the differences between GT, Cobra and Cobra R for the front brakes.

I have a -88 T-bird with an aftermerket 9" rearend.
I will order new axles for it.
Need to step up from 28 splines to 35 splines. The axles I have are twisted.

The question was only, is there any 10" brake drums with 5 x 4.5 that will fit?

Drivetrain Tech / Brake convertion 4 to 5 lug
I have some questions about to convert from 4 x 4.25 to 5 x 4.5.

In front that might be an easy step to use Ford Racing part number M-1102-C which is avalible from summit racing.
I like to have slotted and/or drilled rotors.
My question about the front brake rotors.. The 1993 Mustang Cobra used 5 x 4.5 rotors in the front, but what size? Is it 11" or 13"?
Can brake rotors that will fit Mustang Cobra 1993 be used in this conversion?

The next question is about the rear.
I have 10" drum brakes. Is there any 10" brake drums with pattern  5 x 4.5 which fit the the T-bird on the market or do I have re drill my old brake drums?

I hope for some answers.

Engine Tech / Fuel pump upgrade
Most of the parts will be availble on order....here in sweden.
But, I find my ways around in a more economic way (for my own pocket) :).
I actually bought my T-bird when I lived in Texas for 16 years ago.
It was a daily driver until my divorce, since then it's my toy.
It have since the divorce been through alot of upgrades/changes.
It's still fully streetable. I use it most of the time for 6 month pro year... if no problems occur.
The current setup is as pretty short .... 347, T56, 9'', strengthening and so on.... as most of usually do.
Sad to say, more or less I have bought all of the parts from US and brought it back to Sweden... in other words I have cheeted the swedish custom most of the times (and supported US), swedish custom like to have 12% in custom plus atop of all 25% sales tax (yes the sales tax is 25% in sweden).
To accomplish this I have imported some american cars through the years.. Not even the custom knows what you can hide inside the cars :).
It's also good that's allowed to have 2 suitcases a' 70 lb (last year it was decreased to 60 lb if you were not prefered passenger).
This winter I have to get a new third member ... the previous was laying on the starting grid in a september drag race... not fun.
This time it will be a Detroit locker with 4.30 gearing and 35 splines shafts (the 28 splines are twisted). I will also upgrade to 5 bolt rims (too many studs broken in the last years when using 4 bolt rims).
I like to move back to US just for the easy and cheep supply of car parts.

Engine Tech / Fuel pump upgrade
Continue....

Then force the fuel pump together with the rubber pieces in to the original rubber boot. Take care that the direction for the fuel filter will get as close as possible to the original loacation.
X
Then force it in to the metal bracket (WD40 is a good choose to use). The metal brackets might have to be adjusted to achive the proper result.
X
The end result shall be a complete package with the same height as the original fuel pump package. The next picture shows the fuel pump inserted in the original T-bird bracket with Mustang fuel pump, 45 degree brass fitting and the submit fuel filter with BBK 1607 package. Straight fuel hose is used instead of supplied hose in the kit. I also used some tywraps to even secure the pump further.

Engine Tech / Fuel pump upgrade
I have found quite an easy way to upgrade the fuel pump on a -88 T-bird. So far I have done it on 2 -88 T-birds. One have been running without any problem for last 3 years.
I think most of you are interested to upgrade to a 255 l/min fuel pump from the original whimpy 60-70 l/min.
I have used a BBK 255 l/min part number 1607. Will fit 86-98 Mustang.
At first glanze it will not fit at all.
The Mustang fuel pump is smaller in diameter and the fitting to fuel filter is not fitting either.
I came up with a easy solution. Just use 28mm (approx 1 1/8 inch) 45 degree plumber brass fitting.

This is the original fuel pump.(hopefully you can see it)
X

This is the comparsion between the fuel pumps.
The Mustang fuel pump have the brass fitting attached.
X

I have to cut and grinding the 45 degree fitting a bit to get the end result properly.
Before to install the Mustang pump I added a hose clamp, just to make sure it will not fall off.
I also added some rubber hose pieces. I actually used from these shiznitty generic never use hoses. The reason for that is to get the fuel filter pickup in the same position as the original for the T-bird.
X

Due to limit of pictures I will continue with this upgrade in later mail.
