Lounge / Stilll got my bird!!! So this forum is Priceless!!!!!
You should stick around.  My 86 is sitting in the side yard collecting dust.  A decent running car but I don't have the motivation to do anything with it and I still hang around.  You'll go without a Fox bird for a few months and as soon as spring is in full bloom you'll miss them.

Engine Tech / 3.8 cylinder heads and head gasket
Really with the CFI engine you are not going to get much more power out of it in that configuration.  Also the cylinder heads tend to corrode around the water passage openings making them junk unless the machine shop will weld in new material and level it.  If the machine shop finds that they are good you should keep the heads you have.  It will save you money.  The odds are that the valves are still good along with the guides and you'll only need seals and resurfacing if necessary.

I think over the years there were about 8-10 3.8 configurations, some with balance shafts, some without and various head and intake manifold configurations.  I don't have a whole lot of experience with the different configurations but I understand the 91 and up Mustang 3.8s were real good.  But then you'll have a lot of wiring issues if you were to install one of the Mustang EFI engines.

Lounge / Own a car for 82 years?
My problem is that I bought the 92 ranger new when I was 40.  Time is against me.

Automotive News & Fuel/Energy debate/discussion / EPA approves E15
The problem is more corn, less milage.  GM and Ford have teamed up to fight it going to market.  On one hand the government demands more gas milage from cars and on the other hand they sabotage the effort with ethenol.

Lounge / Own a car for 82 years?
I'm sure there are a few here that can do it.  I'm afraid that to own my car for another 64 years is quite doubtful.

Can you imagine having the same car for 82 years?!!!
I guess it was no longer under warranty...
"How Long Have You Owned a Car?"
Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928.
He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!!
He was the oldest living owner of a car from new.  Just thought you'd like to see it.
He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years)
That's approximately 2000 miles per year...

Events & Shows / Fabulous Fords Forever #26
OK, the 83-88 Tbirds and Cougars were very un-represented in 2010.  This is way advanced notice.  I don't have a car to enter but I'd like to see more than two this year!  Let's woop it up!  It is very much worth the trip and you don't have to have a "show" car to enter.

Lounge / It's finally over!
If they are renting the house make the landlord's life miserable.  Sue the landlord if necessary.

Lounge / Waiting....waiting....waiting......
I ordered my front suspension parts for the 92 LX and paid the cheapest shipping.  I had parts in two days, parts in 5 days and the last part came in 12.  I was getting very impatient.  But all the parts were in time to do the job.  I split it up in to two days.  Left side first and then the right side and the part showed up in the nick of time.

Lounge / Confession
I must confess.  After removing the whole interior, all exterior trim on the 86 a couple of months ago in preparation for repairs and paint I've done nothing else with it.

I did however clean up the 92 LX and rebuild the whole front suspension.  Now I'm driving it daily.  In addition after complaining about how big and sloppy the LX was that now I'm liking it a whole lot.  I'm liking the power seat that the 86 doesn't have, I'm liking the Kenwood stereo that the 86 doesn't have and I really like the Automatic temperature control a/c the very best that the 86 doesn't have.  Now that the front end is all rebuilt and aligned the rear end follows the front end around real good.  And to top it all off it runs fantasticly smooth, no leaks and in general a much nicer car than the 86.:birdsmily:

I also sold the 82 Mercury Cougar GS station wagon two months ago to a Mercury collector in Texas.

Please forgive me.

Engine Tech / Head Gasket
I know nothing about the 5.0 engine but if the head are aluminum you need new heat bolts.  I'm a 3.8 owner.
