General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / I think I can....hopefully
As far as I know and I think I read, a supercoupe aod will work....the shift linkage will have to be flip since its a floorshift car and my car is a colum shift....the thing I have to research is about the tailshaft between the two, something about 7-this and 8-this being changed it would still work but I don't remember right now....

Anyone know about how heavy the rear bumper cover weighs?

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / I think I can....hopefully
I'm use to driving....I put 24,000 plus miles on my '85 cat one summer.....better said, I love to drive......the money I could have used for alcohol or smokes instead goes into my gas tank....and 5 hours is nothing to me, snow plowing in michigan gave me nights where I was out sometimes out plowing 28 hours in one shift

As far as I know it has to be carried, even if its ⅞ inch above the ground......this will be my first time, (also the first time in since moving to indiana hitting a parts yard) I will have done anything like it.......all the yards up in michigan that I've been to (LKQ) have sales aroud the holidays, if I remember, like 30-50% off the total price. So I'm excited to go....sad thing is on my half is that the day before I'll be in michigan so I'm gonna have to leave by like 3-4am to get to the junkyard in Indianapolis...I'n up for a 5½ hour drive to spend $40ish for about $150 worth of parts and a 30 or 45 day warrenty (I think I spelled it wrong, warrenty, oh well...lol)

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / I think I can....hopefully
well not this next weekend but the following sunday (7/10/11), I'm thinking on going to Indianapolis, IN to the junkyard there. Reason being is because they have a, promotional thing, to which all the parts you can carry 20 ft, from line to line, is like $40.........I'm going

My plan is to find a aod from hopefully a T-bird supercoupe, rear bumper cover, and both taillights for my cougar......and anything else I may need.  Thing is I think I can carry it all, but the bumper is what worries me the most, falling or being too heavy...I don't know how heavy they can be but can't imagine way too much.

I also plan on getting it video recorded if I can get the G-friend to come along...and I'll have to make sure my phone is charged to record

If anyone else lives close enough to Indianapolis or wants to try to make it and don't know about this yet, here is the link  :sawzall:

Engine Swapping / 3.8 to 460? can it be done?
A 460 would fit in the car.....but mods WILL be needed....different transmission because the bellhousiings are different between the moters....the front suspension would have to be beefed up....it will probally won't be a plug-n-play......when I helped my father with his 83 cougar, it was off the road for a good 5 years but then again it was rebuilt into a street legal drag car, 460 with c-4 reverse shift pattern transmission and ford 9 inch  rearend...

What I would do if something major is wrong with moter, I would find a replacement 3.8 or swap to a 5.0....but that's me

If you wanna go for the 460 swap, more kudos to you and hope you have fun and get what you want out of the project

Body/Appearance/Interior / Project Evolution *** Project Complete **** Wednesday July 9, 2014
since I joined and over this past month I have been reading this entire tread (a 143 pages later and 90% of it on my phone) and I am amazed what this car looks like and the amount of work into the car from what the project started from..... WOW!!!! ...... I thank you sir for posting your progress and allowing me (and everyone else) to read about this experience I could only wish to complete someday

Once again, Thank you, awesome job on everything, and maybe someday I could be privileged to see the car in person some day

Electrical Tech / Problem with instrument cluster
If I'm thinking what's happening, the connector on the back of the cluster may have some corrosion or be loose.... my '85 cougar I had, closer to 200,000 mi my display would disapear and come back on due to bumps but the light stayed on....... it happened after I had the cluster out and changed the bulbs

Misc Tech / Car dies + side of highway = pushing and tired
Thanks for the tips......as for the mustang fuel pump won't be happening with my ever so tight checkbook so the stock will have ta do....for now anyways.  Oh btw, it wasn't the inertia switch... I used jumpers to bypass the relay and inertia switch to see if anything would happen but no luck

I also forgot to mention that the last couple weeks I have been having issues of having to double or triple start the car the first time each day....and also whenever I would try to take off quick to beat traffic (½ throttle or more instantly) it would spit and spudder and buck for a moment or two, then take off...like starving for gas

So far I have bought a pump off Ebay for about $25 (and a pair of 5000k xenon headlight for $10).  See what I get when they come and if they work.....should know by next weekend how it goes

Misc Tech / Car dies + side of highway = pushing and tired
Last night I decided to go for a drive cause it was so nice out, I'm out for about 20 minutes or so and I stop at a light........ car dies:punchballs:. So not to be sitting in the way of everyone since I'm first at the light, I started to push the car as close to the gas station I could through other parking lots......by time I got it to the gas station (a good 1/4 mi and another 20 minutes later), I put gas in thinking the gauge is wrong and I'm out of gas...... no luck:toilet:, could not hear the pump:disappoin:, fuses good, relay good.

Are there any brand of fuel pumps I should not buy or can I just go and get the replacement that the local O'rileys or AutoZone has?  I though about looking on ebay, maybe??:dunno:

another Q is...... is there anything else I should check while the tank is out?

Electrical Tech / Car Won't Start with ignition sometimes.
other  than the ignition switch mentioned above, will it start in any other gear other than neutral or between gears? could be a possibility of the safety start switch......... its worth checking
