Engine swapping has begun.

Ok I had asked a question in another post about what could cause a problem with the engine in my car. Last night after about 3 hours of screwing around with the tired old V6 in the bird I finally had had enough. I snagged a ride back to my house and picked up the 302 parts I had accumulated for my swap. I didnt quite have everything such as the throttle cable bracket and my tranny kickdown bracket. So I get to do some fabricating 2 welders and a cutting torch at my disposal that shouldnt be a problem. Anyway last night the V6 started coming out. I got the radiator pulled and the wiring out as well as a few other small things here and there. Not bad considering it was a 3 hour trip to go get my parts. I got done about 230 in the morning.
I got up bright and early today. Thank god the V6 is out. It's the last time  a V6 will ever be in my car. I got the K member and A arms from an 83 so I have the mustang style mounts now. Yay even better. The K is in the car now that was about a pain in the butt.  Thank god for coil overs its going alot easier then the last K swap I did. The engine is almost ready to go in all that is left to do to it is bolt the tranny to it and put the mounts on it.  I also have the new wiring harness ran half@ssed in the engine compartment. All in all I think its going pretty good. It looks pretty good so far as well too. At least I havent ran into to many problems yet and hope I dont. I'll update it tomorrow on the progress.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I wont have any until I get it done but I will get some. I wasnt exactly planning on doing the swap yet and got inspired to after the trip here so I didnt bring the camera. Update on it though the 302 is sitting in the car now and it has 4 tires again.I also found out by mistake F150 motor mounts will not work in a car. they have the right angles needed to work but theres a few inches difference between the distance of the mount towers. Im gonna make some spacers to make it work though until I can afford to get some mounts for it no biggy just get to practice welding some yayyyyy.:welder:  Another good thing is I found a dual exhaust that I may be able to make work for the mean time that rumbles all sweet and stuff with a 302 in front of it.

ok got the motor sat in and most of it wired still working on the spacers I seem to have guessed off just a little so my belt reaches a height of about an inch above where the hood would be. so Im a little off lol. got the tranny bolted back down. anyone know what the two big black round plugs with all the wires in them are for?theres one on  each side at the front of the engine compartment. also I found a smaller round plug with two wires in it around the ignition coil who knows what this is? ac compressor  perhaps?  Also the birds getting a custom dual exhaust for the time being until I can get an H pipe and catback system for it. bad part is only thing we have is glass packs things going to sound like a truck when its done. its also only 2 inch pipe but considering theres 2 pipes that makes about 4 inches of flow diameter instead of the stock single 2 inch pipe. Its going on a mainly stock 302 so it shouldnt hurt it to bad performance wise. Its going through mustang shorty headers so it should sound descent when its done. bad part is we're going on day 4 and counting. If it takes over 7 I resign as a mechanic. :D

Distance from Arkansas City to Junction City is 151 miles.

and

Distance from Arkansas City to Salina is 144 miles.

speaking of this we need to work on getting a meet together here in Kansas somewhere, posibly Wichita so its a fair distance for everyone.

You're still waaay ahead of me... I took almost five months to do my 5.0 swap into the TC...

But then there was the matter of starting with two semi running parts cars('86 LSC & '87 Sport TBird), as well as a complete fuel system swap with new pump, a heater core, and engine rebuild along the way... Oh yea there was the small matter of  installing the 5.0 engine harness(after converting it to mass air) and making wiring changes/connections from the battery all the way back to the inertia switch...

Where the Hell you been dominator??? Long time no see...

I wasn't trying to break any records, there was a couple weeks vacation out of town in that five months as well. I would work on it if I was in the mood, a few hours some evenings and a Staurday here and there. No help(other than the engine rebuild) just floor jack and cherry picker for special tools...

Only goal was to finish before the drag strips closed for the season, missed it by a weekend. Was running, but only about half the exaust system was installed.

I still cant figure out what those plugs go to. one is in the passenger side up by the mass air plug in the harness. the other one is located around the windsheild wiper motor both are black looking to me. the little round one is beside the coil wire plug as well as theres a single wire there which Im assuming goes on the coil? or is it a ground? the other plug is a big square green one beside the computer in the footwell. Anyone whos done this before please help me figure out what these got to. the big round ones have like two rows of connectors in them and id say theres probably 8 connectors in it. Also what all can I take out of the factory harness? do I still need the AC oil pressure harness? All the stuff coming out of the computer I pretty much figured out I dont need. but what all else can I remove safely to clean up the engine compartment a little? Thanks

A meet in wichita would be cool if I get the bird back together before then. Im hoping in the next day or so it'll be done.
