My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #90 – November 20, 2012, 12:03:21 AM The scoop is that im covered for building and contents under my flood policy. Homeowners which has the displacement coverage for being out of my home for an extended period does not apply in this case. FEMA would pay for a 1 room hotel for 4 people in a not so convenient location for an extended period, but that would be hell for all of us. I am very lucky to have a cousin with a summer beach house in the town of Long Beach which is 15 minutes from my home, and its available to us through the end of May for free. I just pay utilities. A much more comfortable situation for all of us. Quote Selected

My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #92 – November 20, 2012, 04:28:46 PM good to hear... and surprising the beach house survived.Building materials around here are creeping up in price. Not to trivialize your tragedy, but I'm sure glad I got my garage up before all this happened... its cost would have gone way up Quote Selected
My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #93 – November 20, 2012, 09:21:01 PM Good to hear you have a place to stay. It really sucks to find out something isn't covered after the fact. Hope things get back together for your family soon. Quote Selected
My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #94 – December 04, 2012, 09:33:21 PM Hi Guys,A quick update as i have not been around much.1. Got an initial proposal from the Insurance co for work to be done. Not exactly what we wanted, but we can appeal and tweak it a bit.2. The contents adjuster finally came today, and now we have to attempt to catalog the lives of 4 people from the last 20 years. Fun.....3. Settling into life at my cousins beach house and trying to find our family routine. Great place despite the carnage all around us. Its a miracle that this place survived intact with no damage for us. 4. Finally got a car rental after 6 weeks.....5. Received the initial architects plans for a modest remodel and small extension. So we can get the ball rolling for bids on construction. Here is the floor plan 1st draft. THANK YOU TO ALL HERE FOR ALL THE MORAL AND MATERIAL SUPPORT AND KINDNESS SHOWN TO OUR FAMILY DURING THIS VERY DIFFICULT TIME. I AM FOREVER IN YOUR DEBT, AND YOUR KINDNESS WILL BE PAID FORWARD TO OTHERS BY ALL OF US. Quote Selected
My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #95 – December 04, 2012, 10:50:47 PM It would be difficult to just sit down one day and try to catalog or list all of your personal belongings, which you have lost, for an insurance adjuster. You could have a book full till you are finished. Good to hear things are moving forward for you and your family. Quote Selected
My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #96 – December 05, 2012, 12:31:05 AM I'm glad to see it's moving ahead for you. Does the ins. co. have someone to help with cataloging your belongings? When my parents went through it from thier fire thier ins. co. had a lady come out and work with my mom. She was such a nice lady and was a huge help for her. It'll work out just hang in there. The adjuster was super nice and cool, and gave me the vibe that they wont be checking too deeply into our claim based upon the level of destruction. Quote Selected
My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #98 – December 05, 2012, 08:37:39 AM That's good. If you have any reciepts that helps too. My mom had alot of her's, not that she had to prove anything but it helped with knowing the actual price paid. Quote Selected

My day with Sandy so far........ Reply #103 – December 05, 2012, 07:25:48 PM David, All this must be quite stressful for you and your family. Thank GOD for your cousin! That will help keep things a bit more calm for all involved. At least the kids get to keep going to the same school and their friends are probably going the same problems also. That gives the kids some relief and more understanding about the situation. My insurance man made me take pictures of my belongings and just doing that was a pain, but I'm glad now that I did it. Hopefully, you and your family will get to forget your troubles for a little while and enjoy your Christmas. GOD BLESS! Quote Selected
