What has to be done when you take out the stock fuel gauge? Is it just a straight swap?

it can be. depending on what youre doing. I ran all new wires but you can splice into the gauge harness and wire it however. but be careful what gauge you run if youre using the stock sending unit.. I think ours are 33/240

Oh those guages look killer. did you end up having to cut the dash face trim to get it to fit over your oil guage in the corner? I'm wondering because I will have to do the same with mine when I go fully custom. I've redesigned my layout 3 times and sat for hours trying to fugure out a way to get everything to fit without having to go down to a lower size guage set than I want but it's not possible. $800 for a set is frikken crazy but I feel your pain... that's the only reason I haven't gone fully custom yet on mine is cause of the $450 it'll cost me for the set that I want to use.

I actually trimmed out from under the gauge about 5/16-3/8 from the face of the panel. It was a royal PITA to get the gauge into that perticular spot. it was a 2thumb job. the others were a peice of cake. I would, however,if someone else were going to do this advise to try and get the outer gauges further away from the tach and speedo.

yeah mine will be totally custom, so it will be all enclosed guages. As long as the faces don't sit on top of each other I'll be fine. I even contacted Auto Meter to make sure everything will fit good

The circles are the outermost point of the guage faces. The asterisks are just a result of a lot of measurements for the center points of my radiuses for the layout. and the crosses are where I will be putting screws to hold down the sheet metal that will be going on the face of the cluster to smooth everything out. And don't worry, I've got plans to get around the not fitting part of the process. That is why I was curious what Blackjack did if he had to cut his surround or not b/c you can see from my circles that I will definitely have to. It wouldn't be so bad but if you look at the surround, it starts to dip down as it gets closer to the left side at the top. All the factory clusters are actually cut for that stupid curve. Which is stupid. Did I mention that stupid curve is stupid?

agreed on the curve.. that's why i use aluminum sheet metal and spray it with 'wrinkle finish' paint, for customers that want that 'semi-stock' look.. then just cover it with some 1/8" plexiglass.. it's also much easier to be cutting something up that i don't have to search the junkyard for, if i slip or screw up lol

If you run 2" gauges you wont have to cut the surround. all my gauges fit neatly under the stock gauge lense.
