Yeah, I know Phil.  He's a good guy!  It's kind of a shame he sold his Fairlane.  I still wish I had been successful in getting his "Death Clunk" out of his rear axle in that car.  I think at this point I know what the problem was, but can't remember if that bearing splash shield was in there or not.

I saw in the back ground a pinto and a merkur, Does the pinto have a 2.3 under boost??  I always wanted to build one.  Oh BTW those fender flares look great.  I showed your pics to my buddy the other day, he is another fox freak, and he loved your car.  He bought my 87 Turbo Coupe from me when My pops made me down size from 5 cars to 1.

Lol.  That pinto is stock.  It will probably be for sale in the spring.  Carbed 2.3/c3 auto.  Dad has a tube chassis pinto with almost the exact same setup as whats in this car.

So your flaired bird, a pinto, a xr4ti, and is that another aero turbo coupe I spotted.  How many 2.3's you got rolling around there?

I have the flaired bird, the burgundy TC in the pic(previously made roughly 400whp), and my 86 Cougar XR7.  Dad has the Merkur, a turbo pinto, and the NA pinto pictured.  Mom has a 1928 Gazelle kitcar with an NA 2.3/c3.  They are all drivable.  Probably have 4 or 5 more engines on the shelf, or taken apart.

Well I have finally started making the molds for the hood and trunk lid.  So far, I only have the mold for the top of the hood almost done.  Needs a few spots filled with more gelcoat before sanding and polishing before it's ready for making parts.  I layed the gelcoat on the bottom side of the hood tonight, and will be adding the reinforcement tomorrow.  I rushed the top of the hood when I did it because I didn't wait long enough for the gelcoat to cure.  Figured it would be cured if I waited till the next day.  Also got almost all the stuff to do the carbon fiber today, pretty much just need the resin for that yet.  I'd like to get all the molds done first though.

1 thin layer of fiberglass cloth, and 2 layers of HEAVY fiberglass mat.

The trunk lid I painted before was not enough to my liking for making a mold.  So I sprayed a whole bunch more primer on it, and sanded it flat again.  Ended up looking MUCH better.  Should definitely make a nice part from it.

Making your own hood?
Wouldnt it just be easier to buy one from VFN or Hairyglass? :D

Youre putting a lot of work in to your car, love it!
I was a little uncertain about the fenders at first but now with the car painted it looks a lot better!

I want carbon fiber with bracing in it.  The only one available in carbon fiber is only the top skin, no bracing.  Also I hear horror stories of gigantic gaps and horrible fitment with the fiberglass hoods.  I figure its possible I could sell them once I'm done too.  I know I could corner the market on carbon or fiberglass trunk lids for 87/88 cars.  I take pride in knowing that I've done almost all the work on the car myself.  The only things I didn't do were the porting on the head and intake, and the tune on the engine.  Every other thing I either did or made.

I could almost guess carbon fiber.
Actually, if the CF trunk turns out well, sign me up for one.
Was going to order one in fiberglass but rather have carbon fiber. More sturdy and feels like it will last longer, and lighter ofcourse!

So yeah, sign me up for one!

Well had a bit of a setback with the mold for the underside of the hood.  I put plenty of release agent on it, but it just plain wouldn't come off.  Took me 2 hrs but I finally got it off, minus 1/2 the gelcoat because it was all still stuck on the hood itself.  Don't really have a clue what I did wrong, but I hope it doesn't happen again!!  Pretty well screwed up the hood that I used for the mold, but I figured it would be a sacrificial one anyway just for doing this project.

Well, I've made some headway with the molds for the hood, but still a long way from being ready to make parts.  I figured I'd better put them on the back burner for a little while so that I could finish up getting the car ready for the season.  Finished up the fuel cell firewall and it turned out really nice.  It doesn't even rattle!  Its actually the quietest this car has ever been inside since I've had it.  I also seated in the brakes this afternoon, and they are going to be a learning curve.  They take such little force to lock the brakes up that I will have to be really easy with them.  However in doing that, I found out that the car doesn't currently run right, and I'm hoping its something simple, like timing, but I have a week to figure it out.

WOW this build is freaking incredible! I swear the blue/purple paint changes in every other picture! Its really awesome to see someone MAKE so much for their car. Just amazing! Hope to see this in person one day
