It probably looks even weirder because I cut out the spring pocket and has been cut off within an inch of the frame rail for tire clearance.  I destroyed 2 tires in spins when they got sucked under it.

Ok guys.  Need your opinions on two different paint schemes on the new hood after I make it.  I plan to have the center of the hood natural carbon fiber, and the sides painted, but don't know what would look better, 1 big section, or two smaller sections split in the middle.  I masked it off with 1/4" tape at lunch to try and get an idea of what it would look like.  Between the carbon and the blue will be a 1/8" silver pinstripe like the break between the black and blue around the car.

Is it going to be real carbon ? Would look cool with no paint but I did your idea lol

Yes it will be real carbon.  I'm in a weight loss kick right now.  I know the trunk lid that I do will have the portion that's black now left carbon fiber, and I'd like the hood to be something like that too, but I know racing stripes look weird on these cars.  I think if I leave it totally bare carbon, it'll look weird.  I guess the final decision comes after I get the parts made lol.

I think I'm going to end up plastidiping it to verify better.  Going to make the mold first though in case it doesn't come off easy.  I have to sand and polish the hood first though before making the mold.  Theres a bunch of dirt in it I have to sand flat.

Update time again.  I've steadily been working on getting these flares looking better.  I actually got something I like now(didn't like last years flares).  I have one getting close to being done, but its still got a lot of work to go.  They now have a 1/4" rod around the edge, and a stiffener in the front middle of the rear fenders.  Also got some parts painted that I plan to make molds for the carbon parts out of.  However the top of the trunk lid is still not to my liking, so that'll need some more work.

I really hate how much filler I have had to put in these to get the shape I wanted.  Most of it is fiberglass filler, so it should be pretty strong.

Great work on the flares!

It must be tough to tear into the car like that after it had been painted up and 'finished' once already.

Yeah, I hated doing it, but I had to do it to make the car faster.  My index times went from mid teens overall for the year to 3rd in region.  Multiple fast times of the day, had one top pax(2 if I hadn't coned it away), and 6th and 11th at nationals with 39 in class.  It will be pretty again soon, and that's all that matters at this point.  Some of the cars at nationals just look like they've been attacked with a sawzall!

Well I finally got all the body work done, and the car is in the paint booth now.  Hopefully get primer on it tomorrow and get it sanded smooth and then color on Sunday.  That's what I'm hoping!
