Went to a detroit scca event on monday at the Pontiac Silverdome.  I was the only car in class and they made me run first heat.  The lot was terrible(gravel, breaking up asphalt, glass in places-most of that got swept up though, 1.5' tall weeds) and my new strut setup made it even worse(repaired bent spindle mounting tabs on bilstiens and reinforced).  The repaired struts actually made the car want to turn in and as soon as I even thought about turning the wheel, the back of the car was sliding, so I spent most of all of my runs trying to keep it behind me.  The rear tires are done, so I'm upgrading to the next size - 315/30/18.  There was a guy there with a turbo sky running 295/30/18 tires on 8" wide wheels, so thats a 2" narrower wheel than they are supposed to be on, and the 315's will only be an inch narrower so it shouldn't be too bad.

heres a few pics of my strut reconstruction.  Just took a couple pieces of 2" schedule 40 pipe and ground it out to fit over the strut.  I welded them around in a few spots, mainly to the original spindle mount tabs, then welded a couple pieces of flat stock on.

I also put on hawk dtc-60 brake pads all the way around and MAN what a difference!!  Thing stops on a dime(probably less than 75' from 60mph)

Awesome project!

The only schedule 40 I ever worked with was PVC so I was scratching my head for a moment!  :D

Looking good. Should do the job I'd think.

What pads did you have on it?

They were unknown(probably stock).  They came with the brakes.  Mainly I upgraded hoping that they would have better braking while waiting for vacuum to rebuild.  Sometimes I wait for brakes and its a little unnerving since my burgundy car had no wait what so ever!

Welcome the newest member of the failed aux shaft club! On my third run at an autox today, it just sputtered and died. Tried changing the tps(since I still had one hanging there) and that didnt help. Tried a couple different tfi's when I got home-no luck. Pull distributor cap and cranked it, and gee it didnt move  So guess what I'm doing this week

So the timing belt is OK, but the Aux shaft is shot?  Or is it the old distributor gear stripping?
