Being original is why I beefed up my V-6 instead of putting in the V-8. When I did it a few years ago, everyone thought I was nuts.

Sounds like another "all talk, but nothing gets done" thread. Who was that tool that said he was going to put in a Supra motor, because he wanted better gas mileage? He only posts when he has a crazy idea or to ask something that's been asked a million times.

See, it's not so  much a "Ford in a Ford" issue for me, because if I could get my hands on a cheap LSx engine/tranny it'd be in the T-Bird before you could blink (assuming you blink really slowly). No, the reason I said I wasn't for the idea was that it seems more of a make work for the sake of making work project. Virtually everything would have to be custom made, and this takes time and money for something that would provide almost zero return on investment, both in the car's value and in drivability improvements (over the Ford modular). Like I said, all the parts are out there to swap in a DOHC Ford modular engine. Most of these parts can be bought used (1996-2004 Mustang K-member, headers, etc). There is a vast aftermarket for the Ford modular, and these are very durable engines (I've seen many SOHC versions with over a million kilometers on them). And then there's that T45 option (to my knowledge that Toyota V8 was never bolted to a manual transmission)...

Just driving an 80's Cougar is different. Installing a Ford modular into one would be even more different (I've seen two DOHC modular 'Birds, but no Cougs). Chances are you'd have the only one in your state. Why make unneccesary work and expense for yourself just to be even more different?

Agreed...A modular would be saweet.

I'm not totally biased against off-brand engines in a Ford...I just prefer Ford cars with Ford engines, GM cars with GM engines, etc.

I'd say you have a well enough reason (200k on an engine) to do it. Seems like it could be a good amount of work to get that up and going but to each their own. It you can set everything up I say do it. If you wanna do it to be a little more different....well look at what we drive

ok now the modular motor has my attention. How did i not know there was a carb manifold for them????????????!!!!!!!

either way Ill be the last one to put any Chebbie parts on anything,
i dont care if its a throttle return spring for my lawn mower,
Ill take parts from anywhere but Government Motors.

The 4.6/5.4 family has never seen variable valve timing though, Right???

The 2005 and newer 3-valve has variable cam timing IIRC...

5.4, and 4.6 3 valve motors have variable cam timing. which gets rid of the egr system believe it or not.

Just to let everyone know the rattling in the engine was caused by a bad timing chain guide. The cruse control issue was fixed by reseting the computer just an update

Hmm, good info. I didnt even think about the chain guides but it makes far more sense than valve adjustments. Its been my experience that most OHC chain guides are over tensioned and under oiled for the pressure. Just my thought on it.

Yea im glad they fixed it for her but for the size of the truck it still gets py fuel milage. the best i've seen her get is 18 highway 15 avg. Hell my 5.4 f150 gets that. The 93 yoto truck i use to own got 25 highway maybe it will improve since they reset the computer.
