Cat Jam 2010 Drag Racing

All the negative Cat Jam chatter (dammm economy) has given me a bright side outlook and this gives us the perfect opportunity to set up some Drag Racing. Since we have a year + for organization and this would have been the first year for any type of Drag Racing :burnout:. We need to start campaigning for a T-Bird/Cougar (Chicken vs cooch Shootout) :birdsmily:vs :cougarsmily: Bracket race set up at the local dragstrip for next years triumphant return to Cat Jamming. I will put up the money for a purse.....$500 bracket shootout $250 runner-up, extra $200 for purrrfect reaction time (pun intended). I will need some assistance with this as I will still be in Australia until the end of December 2010, so I will not be there for the event and will have a difficult time setting up the event with the local track. I would like to know if this type of event would be OK with the CJ powers that be and a guestimate of the number of possible attendees. I will attempt to work something with the gate so that CJ'ers would be able to check out the action for minimal bucks.....Now I can't promise anything without approval from Eric and the crew plus the track, but now is the perfect time to start planning and I would really like to gauge the reaction. Lets make the 2010 CJ :drink::cheers:the best yet while we still have the time!!!!

Actually I had something like that in mind for 2010. The only problem is, the track ownership is not stable. If I planned something a year in advance there would be zero guarantee that our plans would be honored when the time came. It's been tumultuous for the last few years, to say the least.

"IF" 2010 will be set up like 2009 at the track, Friday nights are still Test-N-Tune. $10 to race, or $10 to watch. You'd likely get 3 or 4 good runs in. Since we'd have a group of people it may be possible to A) get an area of the track grounds set aside for a picnic for just us, and B) get some kind of discount or allowance for people to watch the racing and not have to pay $10 each. Obviously this is going to take into consideration the overall cover fee that they charge, so things hinge upon that. Because of this, no solid dates have been set yet for CJ10.

However...I do have some connections at the track. I'll see if I can get in touch with my main connection soon and maybe we can make some preliminary plans now. My only hope is that, if we have to pay for it now, we don't get screwed out of the money later on. But let's start at the beginning and see what's what. I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm sure if the track wa approached with a group of - say 15 people ready to race on a set date - then I'm sure an arrangement could be made to set aside some time under a closed track condition.

Atco has their track rental agreement online.  Perhaps something similar could be modeled out by us and run by the track near the "jam?"

The last track rental my Mustang club had guys averaged something like 17 runs a piece.  Later on they even allowed some of the spectators to get involved.  On a side note a 2010 Mustang automatic with 3.31's will run a 13.6 with EVERYTHING in place as it is from the factory with a 1300 DA.....That works out to a corrected 13.4.  It trapped @ 104.  There's more in them.

It would be a Test-N-Tune night...so there will be all makes and models running. We'd have to keep tabs on all of our own cars, motors and mods.

Not that I expect ANY OF THE NEW YORKERS TO ACTUALLY TAKE THEIR CARS OUT ON THE TRACK AND RACE THEM. Noooooo, not when the Desktop Dyno™ is just as good! Just plug in the specs and BAM! The approximate estimates are just fine! Why go out on a track and do the actual work! Never mind the fact that I take my irreplaceable 1-of-1 convertible to the drag strip every once in a while. Where would the fun be in backing up what you say, when just saying it should be all the proof you need!

:flip: :flip: :flip: :flip: :flip: :flip: :flip:

Yes, I do believe that was me calling out the NYers. There's money on this, beotches...let's see if you can step to the plate for a change...

Oh I never said I'd win. I'll lose by a longshot...my car is pretty slow.

I just want proof that a NYer can actually put their car on a drag strip outside of Atco and run it. ;)

It's not the Cougar, but....

The 8th mile track outside of Carlisle last year....Horrendous spin off the line.  Mediocre track prep + stock tire + positive displacement blower = shiznit 60 foots.  I could'nt lay into the car till well past the 100' mark.

Fellas....there would be just one class cause it is a bracket race. All cars would be in the same class and would have to meet NHRA/IHRA safety tech. inspection at the local track to run. So make sure that a BBF LS Cougar with a 7.5" rear end is capable of being safe....and expect your rear end would blow up upon the first launch at the track.

Bring a helmet, battery is tied down, all lug nuts in place, tires are not bald with wires hanging out, seat belts operable, no longer than 12" consecutive rubber fuel line, Neutral Safety Switch is operable, if running slicks a drive shaft loop is required no farther than 6" from the tail shaft housing of the transmission, and no liquids leaking. That's about all the rules needed for a street car. Follow these guidelines and all should be good.

Eric....I would like to discuss with you the plans. I will send a PM.

hahaha i knew what you were hinting at.. i was just waiting for you to say it! APPLES for you and :raspberry and a pear:flip:
besides i don't live in New York anymore... i now live in Boynton beach Florida 1200 miles away from you..theres no way i'm even going to atempt dumping the clutch at 5g's with a T5 1200 miles from my house. i would'nt do it living 400 miles from you what makes you think i would  even think of doing it 1200 miles away! i may be stupid but not crazy:raspberry .... and to just to go and parden the pun cooch foot it down the track to turn a 13.0 at about 120mph whats the point? to say i did? i always said if i can't run the car all out with slicks to turn mid 11's i won't waste my time with 13's at the track with my car. i would be a disappointed and would be boring to watch..

Dude, that's just where Nassau & Suffolk residents go to retire.....Unofficially, but realistically it's NY :hick:

You can't trailer it?

Oh, and after the work done to MY 7.5 it's gonna take quite a bit to blow it up.
I't's passed enough abuse tests for me to know ;)
