Hi, I have one question. Which dashboard belongs to T-Bird '86? Most I see have old looking dashboard (like '84 or '85), but my '86 has dashboard which is in '87 or '88 T- Birds. Here it is.

Should it be the transition type?

83-84 had the same dash, 85-88 had the dash you have.

Yeah, about the only significant difference between yours and an '87-88 would be that the 87-88 has the "firm ride" light in the tach. Back then Ford didn't want to spend all its money on the still-successful 83-86 body style, so only the interior, tail lights, T-Bird emblems and grille were changed for '85. The '87 redesign saw all new body panels but the interior was unchanged from 85-86 (except where changes were needed so interior panels would bolt onto the new, differently shaped body, such as around the quarter windows).

I see you're in the Czech Republic. An upgrade you might want to think about is a Canadian speedometer. The Canadian speedo is metric and goes up to 200 km/hr. Here's a pic of mine when the odometer just turned 100,000 km:

Hmm, good idea, but accuracy of my speedometer is very poor because of used gear box from Mustang. It has more than 30 km/h difference from reality (shows more).

"firm ride" light - What is it?

Sounds like the speedo gear needs a swap.

The 87-88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupes had an electronic suspension (Programmed Ride Control) as standard equipment. There was a switch on the dash to go between "normal" and "firm", plus it would automatically go into "firm" mode at certain times (during aggressive driving). Whenever it was in "firm" mode the firm ride light would come on. It's in the tachometer, a little green LED next to the boost gauge.

That's precisely what the speedo gear's job is.....to indicate the correct speed.  Whenever you change tire size in the overall diameter aspect or rear end ratio or both; you can swap the speedometer gears to compensate for the changes in tire rotations vs. engine RPM to give a correct reading of speed and distance travelled.

By "Speedo gear" he means the speed sensor gear on the tranny. Since you swapped a different tranny (likely with a different number of teeth on the tail shaft) you need the proper gear for it to make your speedo accurate.

My Cougar's interior looks like poop compared to the ones I'm seeing in this thread. My interior sorta got "raped" when the car got re-wired. The dash is coming back out once again so I can replace it while I add a clutch peddle. That poor dash is all to pieces. Has either been out or modified too many times. Plus the dash cover that covered the cracks is cracked itself, lol.
