Well I finally did it. Converted to five lug. It took me a while, been real busy all year with college courses, even the summer. Had a 2 week break, and went for it. I was going to use 99-04 mustang parts up front, but decided not to. I want to wait and save my pennies for some cobra brakes, or better. Ended up using svo rotors.
For the rear I picked up some lincoln axles about 5 months ago. And then about 2 weeks ago I got the brakes, lines, calipers, etc. from a lincoln mark 7. So everything worked out perfect.
Tossed on my mustang wheels. 18x9 255/40 and 18x10 275/40 The car sits like a truck in the pics, but it looks great in person.
The rears fit perfect, no rubbing, but then again nobody has sat in the back. Still have the quad shocks.
And then some fan blade wheels. Fronts don't fit over hub.
Decided to use stock replacements instead since I drive it daily, and the roads here in Houston, phew, forget about it. Plus I have my 02 gt already lowered and man is the ride rough.
I should be getting the wheels this weekend, so onto the 5 lug conversion.
I wanted to swap the entire rear end, but I found some 5 lug lincoln mark vii axles for 20 bucks. Will these work? On the coolcats website it said that all i needed were the axles and rotors from a 91-92 mark 7 and I could still use my TC components. But I didn't find any info using the search option here or on the turbotbird site about using lincoln parts. Just wondering since it sounds fairly easy and affordable. I'm surprised everyone used sn95 axles. Except for Cougarman. But he did use lincoln brake components. Am I missing something?
It might be the throw out bearing. I went to the ler shop, and had tailpipes installed. And now I can hear a faint noise in 4th gear. I had a dumped flowmaster in the vid.
The car drives great. I will try to remove the trans this Friday to check everything.
My clutch or whatever related component, makes a weird noise. The noise is heard in gears 1,2,3 and 5. And in idle. But when I press the clutch pedal it goes away. It sounds like when you have a tire that is going flat. It's not a constant noise, but it is annoying. It doesn't sound that loud inside, but when my dad took the car for a spin today, it is definitely noticeable. The car still drives very well. I think it might be the fork bearing but not sure. Any idea?
I changed over to vacuum brakes somewhere in april of this year. I used a 92 mustang gt brake booster with a 95 gt master cylinder. The pedal has a good feel and vehicle stops are pretty good and balanced.
I replaced the rear passenger side caliper twice. The first one seized up within a couple of days. The second one (currently installed) has been working pretty well.
I rebuilt the driver side caliper. But I had to replace it about 3 weeks ago. Because it started to seize up and one of the pads was worn down to the metal. So I replaced it with a new/refurb caliper. On long drives it smells like burnt brake pads, and if I sprinkle some water on it, it sizzles. I can see that the caliper has insufficient pressure due to the surface rust on the rotor. Rust from when the car sits for a day after it rains.
What may be causing this problem?
Also, I had replaced all pads when I did the conversion. And the parking brake cables have been removed.
