User Rides / MY "Kitty"....
Here's the photo that I've been asked several times for. The long wait is over! LOL!

X

This is my :cougarsmily:"Kitty" as she sits as my daily driver. Sorry it took so long to get my friend to download and get me this pic taken late winter/early spring of this year with an Android phone.
I hope to be starting her restoration sometime within the next six months.

[Yes, I know she's actually Scarlet Red! My S/N has a rather dyslexic story behind it which includes my 89 Bronco...she IS Cabernet Red (and tan)!]

Thank you, jacassity, so very much for such detailed info. I really do appreciate it a lot! It may be some time before I get to the point of actually being able to use it, but it will come in real handy!

Electrical Tech / Full electronic cluster question about voltage potential on battery meter
Quote from: jcassity;416053
well,, one requirement is that this be hidden and not effect the original look of the car.  it will basically be the thing you use in parallel with pulling the codes.
it will become your multimeter so to speak during time when you trouble shoot.
the rotary switch will remain on pos 1 during normal operation but.. when you have trouble.
you rotate the switch to see voltages on strategic pre wired points such as down stream from fuse links, ect ect

OK. They make an aftermarket kit that plugs into the data link that  gives you the amperage, volts, oil pressure, tach, trouble codes. It's  93 pin and you can put it where you can find to put it or mount it to  the dash with Velcro. I can't recall which show it was, but it's on  Powerblock TV, the Muscle Car section. It'll take some sifting of  episodes to find it and I don't have time today to try to do that for  you, but I'll try to get this done as soon as I can. Maybe this evening?

Thanks, jcassity, for the info. I'll check into that. But, if that does require replacement, where does a person come up with a new one? Are the available as an aftermarket item? If not, then where? Also, would that have anything to do with how the engine runs?

And thanks for letting me know I posted in the right spot.

I, too, have got to get bzzzy.

what type of cluster do you have? base, buttstuffog, or full digital?

Thank you. Trinom, for your response.

This is the stock instrument cluster. The Oil and Amp are each idiot lights, the Temp and Gas are buttstuffog gauges, and the Speedo and Odo are digital.

I wonder if the results would still be the same no matter which type I have?

Electrical Tech / Full electronic cluster question about voltage potential on battery meter
Couldn't you just find a good aftermarket volt-meter, mount that window pillar to the left of the driver and just put the original OEM back together as is?

You could possibly get a volt-meter combo with amp-meter and maybe even a small tach. Velcro could be used to mount the meter(s) to the pillar to eliminate destroying the pillar with screw holes. The wires could be run discretely down and 'behind' the
pillar to where it meets the dash and then into the dash to connect where they need to. If one wanted to, they could paint the meter housing to match the color of the interior of the car so it 'integrates' better.

Question: What would cause Kitty's instrument cluster to lie?

It started after a chronic ongoing over-heating problem occurred and was finally figured out and fixed last summer.

None of the gauges tells the truth other than the speedometer/odometer which are fine. Furthermore, and the most disconcerting is that when the green Service light is On the engine seems to run fine. But when it goes out the engine runs really rough. This is with it in gear. It seems to try to smooth out a bit when out of gear. Also, when it is On the gauges read inaccurately and when it is off they 'try' to get 'better'?

This light has a mind of it's own. It does as it pleases, when it pleases. This has been going on for quite a while. I've just been driving the car normally while keeping a very close eye, ear and feel on the thing. But don't take it very far. Just keep fairly close to home, just in case...

I've taken the car to two different O'Reilly's and had them hook up their O.B.D.1s to it to try to see what's what and neither one got a reading at all. Nothing showed up on either of the meters.

With hot weather coming on fast I feel the need to find out what the 'scoop' is on thisand fix it A.S.A.P.

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions that you may be able to come up with for me to try to remedy this situation.

OOPS! I just discovered that I may have put this in the wrong place? Please forgive me? If we can just take care of this here this one time, I promise to be more careful next time.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Help?
Quote from: ThunderbirdSport302;415616

Off topic, but if you are the sort to get out and parts search, both of the pick n pulls (truman, 12th street-formerly u-pick-it) have online inventories...
Says for the location on Winner road they have an '88 Cougar....

I went and checked that out. Definitely had NO headlights. Somebody beat me there! DRATT! That yard cat has already been found by another vulture or vultures...if you get my drift.

Surprisingly, I was able to get the parking lights off of it, but one of those has a hairline crack in it about an inch long. However, I figure it's better than the plexiglass that I frosted and glued with silicone to the front of the one that lost it's lens last week.

This looks like the same one that was for sale a couple of years ago.

His statement below stumps me??

"This car is near perfect condition thanks to Dakota Muscle in Dakota Dunes."

Think he may just be swimming in Lake Silly???
...or at least, has taken a dip?

My only input...on fox bird/cougars...buy a southern car...no rust...all bolts just come out.

Well, unless it's a coastal car that's been run on the beach. That salt and sand combo can sometimes be much worse on a car than northern road salt.

How do you guys handle stuck stripped and busted off BOLTS. This is something all of us DRED and has to deal with it from time to time!

FIRE AWAY!!!:hick::mullet::toilet:

"Drill" them out with a left-handed drill bit designed to get busted bolts out. And, no, these aren't your normal easy out. I can't recall what they're called, but they WORK pretty darned good.
