I realise this questions been asked around a bit, and i've done a search and read the options.
I've got an 83 heritage, CFI 5.0 with the 3 belt setup. my ultimate aim is to clean up the engine bay as much as possible.
which will involve converting to a HO engine along with sefi and eec, along with that change i'd like to get rid of the 3 belt setup and install a serpentine setup.
my concern is, there is a lack of mustang parts locally, and the local brackets/accessories will likely foul on various parts of the car.
the logical step is to install what was originally available on the later model SEFI tbirds.
Now i realise in most cases, the water pump needs to be changed, this shouldn't be an concern as water pumps seem to be easily available. However things like A/C Compressors, Altenator and possibly Power Steering pump arn't so easily available.
So assuming i'm able to get the right brackets, what current accesories can simply have their pulleys changed to suit the new setup?
thanks for your help, i feel like a bit of an idiot having to ask so many questions, but the lack of anything local means trial and error isnt an option
After a bit of hunting locally, looking into the options of importing and converting i got hold of an 83 Heritage.
There were only 3 available for sale locally, (albeit all over 500km away) 1 was a V6 and had a fair bit of rust, another a V8 but needed a bit of work to tidy it up. and this one, which was well out of my price range... how ever fortune was in my favour as it ended up going to auction and became mine for about $6500 AUD.
with a reported 27,000 miles and 95% of the electrics working, its pretty good :)
anyway, enough of the story, here are the photos of it as i picked it up.
Since i don't actually own a thunderbird yet, but am on the hunt for one. i figured i might post what i actually do have.
Idealy i'm trying to find a RHD 83-86 Thunderbird (i want the 4 eyes) Preferably a V8, since parts over here for these are extremely rare i'd rather not be hunting for bits to convert it down the line.
So far i've found about 3 or so for sale, in various conditions and prices (ranging from $6000-$14000)
Thankfully, the 5.0 is freely available in a number of our locally built Fords. in 1991 (almost 10 years too late!) we got our first taste with the HO motor coming in our EB Falcon and it evolved from there.
so... my cars:
1995 Ford EF Falcon 4.0ltr Inline 6 - Turbo charged (Aftermarket installation) 4 speed auto (Similar to the AOD, only its electronic) Runs on straight LPG 225kw at the rear wheels Air Bag suspension
1988 Ford EA Falcon Heavily Modified Body including later model bolt ons (1997 Front and Rear) Its ugly, but i love it :P Has been converted to 5.0 V8 (From 3.9L I6), its a HO motor, with Explorer manifold, Aftermarket Headers and bigger Throttle body. 4 speed auto
1995 Ford EF Falcon - Being Built Stockish from the outside 5.0 V8 - GT40P Heads, 1.7RR's, Stainless Headers, Explorer Manifold, bigger MAF - Undergoing Turbo Conversion T5 Manual
If i find a Thunderbird, chances are the Black Wagon will go in parts, with the driveline being a donor for the thunderbird.
Biggest thing i'm trying to do at the moment is to get a bit of an understanding of any local parts that might be interchangable.... not an easy task :)
