Electrical Tech / How do these tie together?
Quote from: V8Demon;397633
I have the full digital dash with the digital oil pressure monitor.  It usually reads 4 or 5 bars out of a possible 8 which is normal.  I've noticed that the defroster will make the readout read 1 bar higher when it's on.

Could be a case of thermal changes.  Does it do so immediately or does it take some time before the bar gets incremented?  When you turn off the defroster, is the effect on the bar immediate or does it take several seconds?  Does it matter if the ambient air temp is hot or cool?  If you pull the cluster out of the opening without disconnecting it, start the car and run the defroster, does it still do it?  If so, what happens if you use canned compressed air to chill the cluster?  If you check the wiring for your cluster, does the voltage on the pin coming from the sensor change when you turn on the defroster?

I hope this might help you figure it out.

Hmmm, Turns out, It's not a liberal lie. Republicans are responsible for ethanol.

Oh really?  I would like to point out that there are liberals and retarded on BOTH sides of the aisle, so beyond rhetoric, the statement is true, regardless of the party that the liberal in question HAPPENED to belong to.  But back to your rhetoric for a moment... you claim that Republicans are responsible for Ethanol, but I would like you to share your source of this information.  Further, would it be fair to say that A Republican may have introduced the legislation to subsidize Ethanol production, and certainly not something I agree with. But laying that argument aside for a moment, would you agree that there is a difference between subsidizing ethanol production and mandating ethanol be used in consumer gasoline? Whose idea was that, where did they get the authority to mandate such things and if by regulation, where was the authority to regulate derived from, Hmm?

I'd rather keep factory style, but it is still early in the game. I really don't like the march brackets that much.

I don't blame you with regards to having a preference for factory brackets.  The March brackets probably work, but they are kinda "ricery", a term my Brother used recently . :mullet:

I think he is referring to the March (aftermarket) type of systems, rather than the factory brackets.

Body/Appearance/Interior / T-Bird Resto/Mod UPDATE 3-16-18
When I paint mine, I am gonna go with the PPG line, primarily because the guy that is gonna shoot her for me has an in with Auto Body Color and Supply in both Nashville and Knoxville. We are doing this in trade, I build and maintain his new website and he helps me out with bodywork and shooting the car, which seems like a fair trade to both of us. ;)

Engine Tech / Cam and firing order

I had an explorer cam sitting around, too.  I chucked it out in s last week or week before.

Ah well, that is usually how these things work out isn't it.

If you put an HO cam in an explorer 5.0 with GT40 heads, you'll NEED to upgrade the valve springs.

That's not going to be an issue, as we plan on replacing the cam with a stock cam anyway.  He is beyond the age, according to him, when souping up a car or truck trips his trigger.  He is doing good, as it is, to keep her between the ditches. :hick:

From what I have been reading, the Ford part number that I am looking for is F4TE-6250-BA and has the following for specs:

1996-2001 Explorer (F4TE-6250-BA)
256 / 266
186 / 197
0.422 / 0.448
116

Here are a few others worth mentioning if someone is looking to upgrade:

1989-1995 Mustang (E8ZE-6250-CA / F1ZE-6250-AA)
276 / 266
214 / 210
0.444 / 0.444
115

1993-1995 Cobra (F3ZE-6250-CA)
270 / 270
212 / 212
0.451 / 0.451

Misc Tech / TTY and angles???
Well, as I understand it, it isn't a "torque" wrench at all, but an torque to yield wrench (TTY), which basically measures the angle of change, which could be accomplished with micro hash marks and a laser/pickup arrangement, much like a modern (laser enabled) computer mouse operates, in which case it might very well be capable of "self calibrating" to a very large degree.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / 2012 junkyard finds
There is still all kinds of good stuff on that car.  emblems, trim, tail lights, back glass, hood and perhaps quarters and floor pans. Someone needs some of that stuff... trust me. ;)

Engine Tech / Cam and firing order
Ok, I reconnected the battery and took it out for a test drive and the drivability was vastly improved, though it still had a bit of a struggle under load.  We got back to the house and I changed the plug wires to the truck 5.0 firing order. Immediately in the driveway, the idle was much smoother, so we took it out for another test drive.  It climbed the hills of TN without any problems whatsoever, though it still acts as if the cam is retarded just a bit.  What this tells me is that the cam the reman'd engine cam with is NOT an Explorer cam, nor is it a Mustang cam, both of which use the H.O firing order.  After some discussion, we feel like the next step is to tear down the top end and pull out the cam to see what the part number is on it.  Can anyone tell me the part number for the proper Explorer cam?  We called the Ford Tech line and they said that while the engine will run without the proper cam, it will cause issues with the adaptive fuel mapping since the companion cylinders swapped will cause problems with the sequential fuel injection and will result in a rich/lean race condition in the PCM, eventually throwing a code and the CEL will come one... AGAIN.

While I have it torn down, I plan to degree the new cam and check the timing chain, etc.  Dad had purchased a new Cloyes double roller timing set which is still in the box. I could just leave it alone, but since Dad got taken and at 71 and in a wheelchair, he just can't do this type of work anymore. I don't feel right just leaving it as it is or taking a "close enough" attitude.

I can see it now!!! Hay guys just modified my FIT with a fusion capacitor and got an extra 2 HP out out of my engine. I dynowed it at 21 rear wheel HP TODAY.

Are you sure that was horsepower and not torque measured in inch pounds?  Methinks you might be giving the braindead too much credit. ;)

Engine Tech / Cam and firing order
If you use the tool, it is impossible to install it out of sync.  The drive itself could still be installed slightly askew of centerline, depending on how the cam, was or was not degreed when installed.  The idle improved and the roughness is less noticeable, but there is still a stumble, but this was before I disconnected the battery so the computer could start fresh and learn the new parameters. I'll let everyone know how that goes when I reconnect the battery and take her for a drive. As it now sits, the stumble is almost as if the cam is retarded, but I won't be able to know that unless I have to tear down the front end of the motor and if that has to happen, I might be better off to yank the motor and look at everything. We shall see.

Thanks for all of the help guys, both Dad and I appreciate it.
