trans tag info needed 84 4 speed(mustang) Reply #3 – June 07, 2006, 03:41:47 PM There are 2 different types of SROD. One is german built, the other American. I'm not sure which is which but, one has a cast iron case, the other has an aluminum case. The ratios are as follows:Cast iron case: 1st: 3.29 2nd: 1.84 3rd: 1.0 4th: 0.81Aluminum: 1st: 3.07 2nd: 1.72 3rd: 1.0 4th: 0.70From what I understand the aluminum case was meant for less heavy passenger cars and the iron case was for trucks. That would explain the lower gear ratios of the iron case units.1984 was the model year when the SROD was phased out in favor of the T-5. Early 84 models had the SROD, later ones had the T-5 Quote Selected

Early 84 models had the SROD, later ones had the T-5Sorry Paul, you're a year late... T'was '83... Know a guy who ordered a '83 Stang new. He waited till they were taking orders for the T5 before he ordered... This is also likely why the '83 Turbo Coupe was a mid-year entry, they were ALL 5 speed...The (maybe, maybe something else)SROD 4 speed trans was in the NA 2.3 Stangs through '86, then they got the T5 for '87.. The SROD was used in 83 and 84 as well (seen a couple in some 84's) Never seen one in an 85 or newer passenger car though. Quote Selected

trans tag info needed 84 4 speed(mustang) Reply #11 – June 12, 2006, 09:45:25 PM OK....i came up with these ratio numbers for the transmission.... i did this by turning the output shaft 10 times and counting how many times the input shaft turned (g/f counted) so these numbers are rough...... these ar ethe gears in turns then the ratioR 40 3/4 turns 4.081st 40 3/4 turns 4.082nd 21 1/2 turns 2.153rd 14 1/4 turns 1.43 4th 10 turns 1.00SO.... am i figuring these out the right way? by turnin output shaft 10 times and counting input shaft turns for all those gears?Btw this has a cast iron center.... aluminum bellhousing and tail shaft :-| Quote Selected

trans tag info needed 84 4 speed(mustang) Reply #14 – June 13, 2006, 06:04:48 PM The 2.3 T5s have a 3.97 1st. Also I believe early T5s used in the SVO Stangs had a 4.03. Quote Selected
