Well, something has snapped in my cranium....I've started the legwork to get the parts together for an Aussie X-flow-headed 200ci inline 6 turbo for the Tbird. This won't happen this year as I'm going to get the car on the road with the 2.3T for next season and enjoy it and get the other engine together and swap it in later.

The only way I would have considered even building a 200/250 I6 would be if I could get rid of the py US head/manifold abomination they have on them....and I have located a head, intake, etc for a decent price and I'm looking to get it sent my way in the next couple months.

It's pretty easy to mate the US 200/250 to the 78-87 Aussie aluminum crossflow OHV head.....some minor machine work, but nothing precision. I'd LOVE one of the Aussie OHC I-6's....but not on my budget :p.

I haven't decided on one or two turbos yet...and probably won't for a while. The weight isn't an issue as it will weigh the same or less than the 2.3T....The fun part is going to be building the exhaust manifiold/header :D Mating it to the T-5 will be easy too....I'll be doing that here soon in the Z-7...so the stuff will just transfer over (going to be doing the DP2.3T swap into it).

I think my 45K shortblock in the Z-7 should suffice as a donor

Or I might just grab another block....but I'm not sure I have any more room in the garage for another engine (have 5 in there right now.....)

Anyway, this should be pefect for really setting the Tbird apart and giving it a nice smooth powerful powerplant.....it should be fun :D

The engine block itself is any US 200 or 250 inline 6..the head is from Austailian Fords (Falcons mostly, but a few others) from 78-87.

Well, you know by now I'll love to see it finished.. but I'm sure you'll get the usual number of "why not just put a 5.0/5.8 in it?" questions.. mostly from newer users who don't yet know you as the "King of 'pointless' engine swaps". :p

I wouldn't mind a 250 I6 project, but it just seemed to me like the 300 would be easier to get, and go EFI with. Ideally, I'd like to get a working F150 w/ a 300 that needs a rebuild, and swap my 351 into that and use the 300 (after a rebuild, obviously) for the car project.

Heh.. saw you fishin' for 200 stuff over at ford-fox.. figured a post like this might show up sooner or later, over here. :p Good luck with it.

Yeah, I want to get the Tbird back on the road first....but with all the other work I'm putting into it.....it "needed" something else, and I've always liked the Aussie 6's....this closer to that and with a little work will really scream...

I think it will be sweet to have that engine in a bird. I am a huge fan of off the wall stuff for the sake of being different. My pointless swap would be to put a 5.0HO with a 6 spd. in a 92 Taurus SHO. At this point it is all I can do to pull off the basic 5.0 HO/T-5 swap into my 85 bird.

On that SHO idea... after you take out the Yamaha motor you can drop it into a smaller car, let's say, an escort or something.

Crazy...It was pretty quick with just 1 SHO engine

A new guy at work wants to look at my '88 T-bird for a work car.. so if he buys that, (since you stopped responding) I'll have room for and a little money towards buying my own I6.. be it in a car or otherwise. I can appreciate Chuck's project, obviously.. but I wouldn't exactly jump him over it. :p
