Hood spring problem

Idk if anyone else has had this problem but when I got my 88 TC the back of the pasanger side of the hood would not close all the way down I knew it was the spring also the hood would not open up very far and makes working on the motor a pita

So I picked up a prop off a fox mustang today disconnected the springs bolted the prop on and it fixes every thing hood closes right and opens up a lot further

The prop is a bolt on peice one 8mm bolt and the core already has a threaded hole and the hood actually has a prop hole also

Just a FYI for anyone having this problem

I looked at the hinges, what did you do to modify them?

There is a part of the hinge held on with a clip take the clip off and slide it off it takes the weight of the hood off the springs

there is an adjuster to the rear of the hinge that changes the elevation of the hood.

also, stuff in between the coils will occupy space when the spring coils up as you open the hood, preventing it from fully opening.

your going to hate the hood prop over time.

My car came with the prop rod mod from the factory.  I think all 83-86 cars did in case anybody needs to find a prop rod.

The udjuster did not work and the springs are week and only held the hood open to halve of what it is with the prop

Do you mean the two mounting bolts on the hinge or the rubber "bolt" of the back on the hinge that the hood sits on when closed?

DAD always told me never buy a car with 4 LUGS a non self supported hood or a Turbo. The Midnighter has 2 good quality according to DAD. The hood is self supporting and it is 5 lug. Just saying!!

Hood sticks are YUCKIE. They are always in the way. Just me

Fixing those hinges is no big deal. And there is an adjustment screw. Getting the hinges to work properly is no big deal. But whatever turns you on. Hood holding devices are about 400 Billion on the list of things that i think about. If it dont make HP i spend no time thinking about it!!  Just Me.

Well to swap hinges you have to remove the fenders and that's a job avoided buy just using a prop

I'm happy having my hood open all the way lol
