Winter stuff to do December 19, 2011, 03:39:53 PM I put the car on a mustang dyno the other day. I wanted to check the rwhp and see where I should be shifting and see the afr. I am planing on taking some jets out of the primaries and see if I cant get the afr in the lower rpms a bit leaner. I also am doing a 5 lug and cobra brake swap and would like to keep track of the progress here and get better at posting stuff. http://youtu.be/R9jQHjjvmGk Quote Selected

Winter stuff to do Reply #4 – December 21, 2011, 04:11:55 PM Yes on a mustang chassis dyno. I still haven't figured how to get the pdf to post on the page or get the youtube to play here either? Quote Selected
Winter stuff to do Reply #5 – December 21, 2011, 04:32:35 PM the pdf opens fine for me.. maybe it helps because i hate the latest adobe reader? :dunnoanyway.. you don't want to go leaner, you need to richen that thing up! 11.6 is too lean, i'm surprised you're not eating plugs left and right.. 14's is where you need to be.. 9.6 is terribly, terribly lean.. i'm surprised you're not falling on your face when you leave the line.. lean is only good for power in a 2 stroke, but it will eat away at the top of the piston.. we call it 'burning down' with the micros, since we're running 2 stroke dirt bike motors and it happens to noobs all the timeanyway.. go rich, going more lean = bad in your situation Quote Selected
Winter stuff to do Reply #6 – December 21, 2011, 10:13:55 PM ^umm, I think you have your info messed up. 14.7 is where you want to be cruising at, and 10.9 to 11.5-6 is usually pretty good at WOT. I think you can run N/A stuff leaner, but 11.4 is where I run my turbocoupe and havent had an issue all year.9.6 is not terribly lean, its fouling plugs rich!! Quote Selected
Winter stuff to do Reply #7 – December 22, 2011, 04:52:40 AM I was going to say something as well, but I have never even seen a wide band, or used a tuner so I decided to keep my mouth shut. Quote Selected
Winter stuff to do Reply #8 – December 22, 2011, 07:15:02 AM Agreed. 14.7:1 is ideal. At WOT 11.5:1 is best. At cruise you can even go up to 15-15.4:1. Idle can be even leaner. I have an Innovate Wideband in the 351W Ranger and it is GREAT!! I LOVE IT!! Really helps eliminate tuning issues and dial in AFR at idle, cruise and WOT w/o having to use a dyno. It evn has a feature to tether to a laptop and plot everything as you drive so you are not trying to look at the gauge. My truck is currently 13.5 at idle, 12.6 at cruise and low-11's at WOT. Need to get a jet kit of the winter and start tinkering in the spring to lean it out. Best $200 I spent on that truck! The dyno however helps dial in timing and advance curves. Quote Selected

Winter stuff to do Reply #10 – December 22, 2011, 04:09:26 PM Quote from: cougarman;376042Great numbers, congrats!!ThanksThe Guy that will be doing the carb work in the spring when its closer to summer, will be installing a wideband for a while to map it and then he has a plan as far as jetting and he wants to bring the timing a little earlier to smooth out the low city rpm driving. Its hard to drive it nice and gentile with mom in it she likes the vroom vroom car but not when it plants her in the seat shes not a big fan of speed. If I new what I know now I probably gone with a vac advance distributor Quote Selected
Winter stuff to do Reply #11 – December 22, 2011, 04:12:37 PM And i still need advice on posting videos so they play on the same page? Quote Selected
Winter stuff to do Reply #12 – December 22, 2011, 05:53:58 PM if you decide to switch to a vacuum advance distributor in the future, ask a few people who run them first.. some brands don't advance/retard enough for a healthy motor's liking Quote Selected
Winter stuff to do Reply #13 – December 22, 2011, 09:27:20 PM easy enough to change that though. There's a set screw in the vacuum servo that you can adjust. As for mechanical advance, you can take that apart and either weld up the movable piece to limit mechanical advance, or grind it out to have more. On my truck, I ended up not using the vacuum advance because it would just surge crazily down the road until I unhooked it. Quote Selected
