1st time at the track in 15 years

Finally got to the track with the cat. Only my second time ever. My first run was so bad all I can say is the 60' was a 3.024. Some of the guys say I didn't do enough of a burnout and the tires were still wet from driving through the burnout box (can't drive around it at atco). 35# of tire pressure wasn't helping the dryrotted old tires either. 15.013@95.13  was my second and final run. Dropped the tire pressure to 27# and a 3-4 second burnout. Total time at the track: 6 hours, total runs: 2. Either way that was fun. But, I can't help thinking I could've done better. Can anyone guess how much lettiing the aod shift for itself (short shifting out of 2nd) is costing me in mph/et?

15 years away from atco? i'd cry! when i had my cougar with the stock AOD, i lost 4/10ths of a second by letting the AOD shirt itself.. it also depends how your cable is adjusted.. 3.024 is horrible.. if you can improve on that, you'll be well into the mid 14's, maybe even low 14's if you hook well enough and manual shift the AOD

Never raced at Atco before. I raced down in Portsmouth Va with some friends who knew their way around the track. My goal now is to beat my best time back in the day of 14.00@99. My 15.00 on Friday was with a really soft launch. A harder launch and manual shifting may get me close to my goal. I just have to find another 4mph too. Let me know when you run your capri. I like them more than mustangs, especially when they're in single digits!

not really.. it's only a spritz of water and the track is ALWAYS prepped with pen 15e syrup.. i'm surprised they let him run with dry-rotten tires though.. they weren't going to let me run my camaro because my rear street tires were dry rotten, but i had slicks where the back seat should be.. they wouldn't let me pass tech until i changed them

Can't drive around the water at my track either, so I burn em till I know they are dry, then roll slowly to the line in attempt to cool the tires and pickup some sticky from the track... Must work, as I pulled several 1.87 to 1.91 in my Marauder running the stock BFG tires...

BTW I won street class that night('bout a month ago) which is the first & only time I've raced since the Bird went down in '09...

Congrats on winning your class. For the first time (the track was not this crowded my first visit) its quite intimidating. I can't imagine I'll win brackets, heads up, or anything for that matter.

the classes that run at atco are filled with people who take it super serious, especially in the gamblers series and quick 8's/outlaw 10.5's.. those guys act like they're running an IHRA/NHRA race weekly, like it's paying the bills lol

Yup it's still here, along with a 331 short block over at a friends... I'm gonna make a decision before too long, another friend has a pristine '72 Comet I'd like to have... Basically I have too many vehicles with five licensed and insured, the weak hearted(blown head gasket) Bird has to set... The Mach 1 Red TC is goin up for sale soon, needs a bit of TLC but its now state inspected and driving...

Hey Crash, glad to hear you got that thing together and to the track.....that MPH should be mid-14's...I was pulling consistent 2.1 60's and running 14.30's-14.40's around 96mph in Ol' Blue.  A looser convertor and sticky tires and you'll be  close to 13's if not in the 13's.  What made you use that Cobra spec cam?  Looking for more bottom end?  Good luck!

P.S.
sorry I totally missed hanging out with you when I took my Hurricane Irene vacation to Jersey...so much to do in so little time.
