2.3 Ignition Issue January 04, 2011, 07:06:27 PM My 88 TC has an ignition break up problem above 11 pounds of boost. I have a boost control valve so I have set the boost at 10 psi and everything is normal. Timing is set at 12 degrees, plugs and wires are new. Dist cap looks good. Here's the kicker, if I shrink the plug gap below .030 and advance the timing, it runs good up to 15 psi or where ever it starts to detonate depending on air temp. I'm thinking a coil. Any suggestions would be appreiciated. Quote Selected
2.3 Ignition Issue Reply #1 – January 04, 2011, 07:35:45 PM Use only motorcraft ignition parts on the 2.3T Sounds like youve narrowed it down, coil, plug wires. What brand of wires? Quote Selected
2.3 Ignition Issue Reply #2 – January 04, 2011, 07:40:18 PM I had a set of Taylor wires on it originally, but then put a brand new set of Motorcraft wires on it and it didn't change. Quote Selected
2.3 Ignition Issue Reply #3 – January 04, 2011, 09:28:16 PM sounds like the boost is blowing out the spark. id say gap em down a bit and see how she runs. Quote Selected

2.3 Ignition Issue Reply #5 – January 04, 2011, 09:50:18 PM Plug gap spec is .032-.036. That would be my reason. Quote Selected
