My Sport January 01, 2011, 03:28:25 PM Woohoo, it's a balmy 25 degrees outside, and I'm gonna get '11 off to a hopeful start by pulling the front control arms off of the white car for use on the Sport. After I get them off I'll throw em into my woodstove :hick: to burn out the rubber bushings, then Monday I'll take 'em to work and throw them in the sandblaster.I've got some work to do, as I plan to dd the Sport when it warms up and they quit salting the roads. I still need to decide on how to do the 5 lug fronts, whether it'll be with the Mark VII rotors I have now, or Stang spindles, rotors and brakes. The rear I already have a pair of 5 lug axles, planned to grab the rest of the necessary parts from a stang on the next jy trip.I'd like to throw in some Bullitt or mach springs, but I may just run the TC springs for now and worry about that later, when it warms up.After I get it back on all 4, I need to address the interior and finish putting all the pieces back together, after a thorough cleaning. Then, I need to open the T5 and replace the synchros, bearing retainer, and whatever else needs fixed into the near-impossible 2nd upshift/downshift.I adjusted the piss out of the clutch cable, and actually got it to go in second, but there's nothing fast or smooth about it, and I want it fixed before I use it again. After that, I plan to drive it when the weather is decent, until I get money for bodywork and paint, which will probably be about the year 2150 or so... My Sport Reply #1 – January 01, 2011, 08:25:14 PM I've got the driver front control arm off, it's in the stove now to melt the rubber bushings out.Man, that was a fight...the spring would just NOT come out of the pocket. Beat the livin' piss out of it with a 10 pound maul before it finally came loose. Never ever seen one stick like that...Gonna get the pass. side arm off tomorrow, so I can get the bushings out of it, and get them blasted for painting.I already had the driver's side out, but apparently when the old sleeves/bushings were pressed out, something got bent, as it doesn't line up with the brackets on the subframe. Sucks.I had another thread about this car, but I got tired of all the pics of nothing that it contained..I will make this thread a little more productive. For now, the mods include:5.0HO/T5 from '89 Stang GT8.8 disc rear, 3.55 ration from '88 TC11" rotors, calipers from '88 TCMotorsport seatsstrut brace255 lb/hour Walbro f/pTC hood, header panel, wheels, and misc. interior stuffCHE non-adj. rear control armsIt's an '88 Sport, with almost every option but heated seats or memory seats. Some of the other stuff I've done is remove sound deadener, changed the cluster bulbs to red and remove the puke green filters for such, swapped in a different interior (still working on that heh) It was pretty rough when I bought it, but the scarcity of anything besides 3.8 cars around compelled me to grab it for under 5 bills. It ran just fine with the SO engine, my dad thought I was nuts for yanking a perfectly good engine for another one....he just doesn't get the "more power" bug...I'm just gonna start doing what little I can with the time and money I can put aside for it, one of these days it'll be picture worthy, however picture worthy a 22 year old car in flat black can be..lolI'd eventually like to drop in a TFS-headed 5.0, or windsor...but that's spending money I ain'ts got...probably try to pick up a set of gt40s and a nice cam, and go from there till something breaks in the engine.Only thing I regret....not leaving the thing auto tranny. My Sport Reply #5 – January 02, 2011, 06:16:57 PM Had a little free time so I pulled the pass. control arm, got the ball joint knocked out, and snapped a few pics, in case y'all forgot what an ugly car I have.First off, here's a pic or two of the (bent) first driver side arm after paint:hard to see how the narrow side is a little twisted. Here's a better indicator:Guess it must have been when I pressed out the old shiznit. Here's the bare frontContemplating taking off the K and cleaning/painting it too.Engine in a baggieThe Ugly Ducklingincompleteness personifiedneed a new rack, right? My Sport Reply #7 – January 02, 2011, 06:28:14 PM Beau, you have some work to do. It would be nice for you to get this car mostly done (mechanically) this year so you can enjoy it. Hey,what shifter is that on your 5 speed? Quote Selected
My Sport Reply #8 – January 02, 2011, 07:40:29 PM The seats are Motorsport units, from what I gather they're pretty uncommon. They were in the ASC/McLaren Capri I owned for a bit in 05.The shifter, I can't recall, it's not a name brand piece though. I'd have to look at it up close, I can't remember. Surprisingly, the stock (tc) shifter handle fits right on...I'd dearly love to get the mechanicals done, and at least the interior all together. I've got an idea for headliner (Thanks Chuckw!)..after I satisfy some parts obligations, I'll be buying a sheet of plastic and cutting it for a backing piece. My headliner is bent, creased, and torn, gouged and looks like it's been through a war. The seats are filthy, a cat got in the shop sometime last summer, was locked in for a day or so, pissed on the passenger seat. I liberally coated it with baking soda...doesn't stink anymore, but they do need a good deep cleaning. If I had something to keep a little area of the shop warm, or about 40-50 degrees without fuming me out, I'd work on it at nights and in what little spare time I have. There's a drive in me that i've never had before to finish this thing, but this time I'm doing it right, the first time. My main goal was to take as much stuff off, clean, repaint, and undercoat what needed it, but that may have to wait a year or so. I mostly want to drive it this spring/summer/fall to work, and just generally have a fun ride. Looking toward eventually doing a little autocross after I get educated on what is required, allowed mods, so on, so forth. For suspension, it's getting Energy Suspension pretty well all over in the front, the rears are CHE non-adjustables with whatever bushings are in them, pretty sure they're poly, they didn't feel none too soft when I somewhat gently poked 'em with a big phillips screwdriver. Vinnie, also going to use those SN95 struts I got from you last year, and also going to use Mustang shocks out back with Chuck's adaptors I have. Can't remember who I bought them from, but thanks anyway! After I get the arms cleaned and painted and the ES bushings in, I'll snap another pic...still debating on yanking the k, but at this point, seems like unneeded work. No sense having a show car where it can't be seen from 20 feet away, and it's only slightly rusty...I WILL do something about the spots of rust that are there, though. Thanks for reading my book here, lol :D Quote Selected
My Sport Reply #9 – January 03, 2011, 06:18:52 PM Keep it up. One step at a time. I've been there, and I'm still there.LOL. Quote Selected
My Sport Reply #10 – January 05, 2011, 03:58:25 PM Well, the dash is out...again. , I'm going to be certified as an ASE dash remover...ughh.The reason I yanked it THIS time....I had an issue from before where a small bundle of wiring was taped up too tightly and wouldn't allow the dash to rest properly against the firewall. Also, I'm going to clean the carpet really good and do as much cleaning and reassembly to the interior as I can while I gather up the bits for the frontend.I did it the easy way, removed the seats and dropped the column...then I saw just how filthy the carpet had gotten to be, so it came out too.Seats also need a good cleaning, dusty, musty, and the pass. seat has baking soda caked into it. See the previous post that refers to cat piss. Bastids. No sense in putting dirty pieces back in.Pics after work...stay tuned Quote Selected
My Sport Reply #11 – January 05, 2011, 09:53:12 PM lol, "Thunderbird" on the dash. thats awesome. Just like what I did with my cougar. You sound a lot like what I've been saying lately. Just wanna get the gd thing running at this point and don't too much care what it looks like heh. Quote Selected
My Sport Reply #12 – February 24, 2011, 12:09:54 PM I've been doing a little shopping, acquired a pretty nice floorshifter, cable, and bracket for an AOD, just need to get a decent for it, and go back for the AOD in the Mark 7 I saw. Seems like something else has changed too.....Oh yeah! Suddenly I have no need for the 4 lug snowflakes anymore. I just pulled the trigger on a 5 lug setup setup from a '94-'95 Stang.Still need to locate the rear calipers and rotors...or there's the stuff on the previously mentioned Mark 7.I also picked up a 3G and a ministarter as well...but I won't worry about those until after the car is mobile, as I'm not well versed in the changed needed to use those parts. Yet.Things are starting to come together, and when I get the Sport mobile, I have another Fox i'm very interested in. I'll tease everyone and say that it was pictured on this forum about a year ago when the current owner bought it lol.More to come soon..and pics too I guess Quote Selected
My Sport Reply #13 – March 08, 2011, 12:31:48 PM New ball joints in, depending on the wife's work schedule and how early I need to get up with the kids, I may try to get one side put together tonight after work. Not a huge rush though, have to wait till payday for a new pair of front calipers...if I had bigger wheels, I'd just get the cobra stuff and only have to do it once, but the 5 lug wheels I have are only 16" so it'll be stock (Mustang) brakes for now. I have to research a bit and see if I'm going to need new bakes hoses for the SN95 calipers...I currently have the 11" TC/Stang 5.0 hoses. Also have to grab a few lug studs. I may go bolt some stuff up here in a few, stay tuned for a few pics of my snail's progress lol. Quote Selected
