Will the new 5.0 fit into a 87' Bird? September 12, 2010, 08:11:03 PM Is there anyway to fit that joker and its drivetrain in my thuderbird and not have to many problems (besides the wiring). I thought that it would be a lot different to see a thunderbird with the new 5.0 runing around, not to mention i wouldn't have to upgrade it to much if i had to, 400+ hp is more than enough for a daily driver and i don't have much problem getting my hands on the parts either, for i work in a collision repair shop and have to constantly go to junk yards, plus we have a 2011 Mustang 5.0(it has auto. but i will find the 6-speed trans. and install it) thats in the back that was rolled a couple of times and my boss bought it from the insurance company and hasn't done anything to it and if this swap is at all possible i might ask him if he is willing to sell it. Will the new 5.0 fit into a 87' Bird? Reply #2 – September 12, 2010, 09:33:02 PM I would think it would be along the same lines as a 4.6 swap. Quote Selected
new 5.0 Reply #3 – September 18, 2010, 09:29:51 PM Well maybe..Its a Jag engine. It has almost nothing at all in common with the 4.6 short of the bellhousing. Its a front "sump". Its not really a sump at all, more like a flat oil pan.the engine at its widest point is almost 30" wide. It would be one Hell of a swap.. but would be a pain. you can order the hole setup including ecu and harness from FMS. They have a stand alone fuel injection system available for it to... if you have almost $9K to blow! Quote Selected

Will the new 5.0 fit into a 87' Bird? Reply #8 – September 20, 2010, 04:08:55 PM The only one I know of currently under construction is a Fox Mustang Coupe on stangnet.comThey already have a problem with oil pan fitment hitting the k-member.That is the site I go to to see how the swap will work.No-one yet makes Fox headers for the Coyote 5.0.The 2011 Mustang headers aim right into the firewall. Might work in reverse for a turbo set-up ?Here is a link on their build-up....go to page 6 and see how the oil pan hits the k-member.http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/806081-stangnet-11-5-0-notch-project.htmlEdit; Might have to be a member to view the pics. Will the new 5.0 fit into a 87' Bird? Reply #10 – September 28, 2010, 12:57:56 PM You could use the FAST EZ-EFI to run the Coyote 5.0, but I don't think they have anything to control the variable valve timing, so you'd lose out on what makes that motor so potent...lol. I have to check it out a little more because I'm probably going to use it on my 351W when it goes into the Crown Vic...it's only money, right?Good luck,Don Quote Selected
Will the new 5.0 fit into a 87' Bird? Reply #11 – October 08, 2010, 02:40:29 PM I got to see one of those Coyote 5.0 crate engines up close and personal @ the NMRA Finals in BG at the Ford display and I really want one now !Those 2011 GT headers look like they could easily be turned around for a turbo install or a front exit exhaust for now (cheap way out)There is a huge air gap between the top of the block and the bottom side of the intake. You could hide nitrous stuff in there easily !.....LOLAt any rate, I talked to my wife while she was sitting in the golf cart watching me drool over that engine.:DI told her it would be wiser in the long run to purchase the crate engine and electronic control package for around 7,400 total than it would be to pay a local machine shop to build me a 7,000 rpm screaming 435 hp engine.I trust Ford's quality control system more than I do the local machine shop.Imagine having a screamer 444 lb engine that idles super smooth....:D Quote Selected

Will the new 5.0 fit into a 87' Bird? Reply #14 – July 23, 2011, 10:02:14 PM BBK makes a set of coyote swap headers w/x-pipe for fox bodied stangs. They are $569.99 and x-pipes from $249.99 to $479.99. Not cheap by any means. Quote Selected
