Aod swap Reply #17 – March 19, 2010, 06:25:55 PM The sc aod is not that bad, You need something built . ford sucks at there aod's. sc or whatever. The sc never had the torque a built 302 has to kill it. Quote Selected

Aod swap Reply #20 – March 19, 2010, 09:34:34 PM kitz, my goal right now is to get it together and moving under it's own power. There's a bunch of stuff that need to be sorted out after the swap, as well as upgrades. It'll probably be another year to get everything sorted out and totally back together after it gets painted. If I wait for everything that I want on the car, It'll be 5 more years before it gets finished. I need to concentrate on getting it back together and then upgrading whatever is left. Who knows Kitz, maybe I'll have your AOD in my car next year. Quote Selected
Aod swap Reply #21 – March 19, 2010, 09:40:50 PM Btw, You guys have no idea how much I've spent on the car just to get it to this point with no motor. I'm not trying to slap it together to finish it, but like I said, I can upgrade the transmission after I get the car rolling again, and save a few bucks up for the upgrades. Quote Selected
Aod swap Reply #22 – March 19, 2010, 10:23:16 PM I'd get KItz's AOD if you can. It would work great if you ever intend to drive the car on the highway, ever. You could use the C6 for now and swap in a nice AOD later. For a nice, built, AOD and a good converter (ie a Precision Industries converter) you're looking at a price tag at or north of $2000. I know because I'm going through this process right now. :hick:Oh and do you know what balance weight the flywheel has on it? It should be a 50oz weight (to go with the crank balance) or you'll vibrate the motor to death.... Quote Selected

I wonder if it's higher than a Mustang's and maybe the extra weight of the Mark VII actually taken into consideration....QuoteBtw, You guys have no idea how much I've spent on the car just to get it to this point with no motor.Thinking about the man-hours alone is quite staggering.... Aod swap Reply #28 – March 20, 2010, 12:52:43 AM Your right about the sc not having the torque of a built 302 but i was not talking about a built motor. What i was saying is that the sc's aod was built tougher in stock form to handle more torque than the mustang aod.The transmission strength and longevity also depends on how you treat it.If you go around town doing neutral drops and brake stands all the time no stock trans will handle that(drive your car for the parts you have not the parts you want) and will grenade.I run a stock clutched mustang aod with a 24-2600 stall and a valvebody with 500+hp and it's still in the car 4yrs after i built it.Yes i drive it like i stole it but i take it easy on the trans as much as possible until i can put my lentech in.As for the not driving the car on the hwy, overdrive is not only for hwy use ya know,i use it anytime i'm over 70kmh(which is quite often) and it save's alot of fuel so, i don't want or need to hear about overdrive being only for the purpose of hwy, that's just BS,live in the 00s guys not the 60s.The C6(yes i had one and it was built to handle 9sec 1/4s)is a strong trans but revs to the moon with 3.73 gears at speed in 3rd gear and it's a heavy beast as well, much heavier than the AOD.Keep with the 80s jerry and skip the C6, stay with the AOD, just dont use the one from your 3.8L as it will go out on ya quickly with the combo you propose. The stock 3.8 non sc AOD is the weakest of all the AOD's and is only good for the s pile unless properly built. To answer your other question about price, under $150.00.I've seen many sell for 150 or less on their.
