I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

How would you like it if they did that to us? Lets try not to make a big arguement between boards ;)

*sigh* Why does no one think my suggestion was a good idea? I'd rather not have ignorant Audi guys (Different from nice Audi guys) join our board and post retarded comments. And to whomever is Anon on their board, I think you were out of line ;) you'd get talked to pretty firmly or be banned here for some of those comments at the end there. Have a tiny respect even if they don't have it for you, be the bigger man.

Just what we need..an internet war with a bunch of 4-dollar-a-bottle water sipping, little finger in the air, holier-than-thou "If it's not European, it's a shiznit car" attitude :hick:

Now, stereotyping aside, I've been involved in countless forums, from chatrooms, to automotive, hunting, guns, atv..you name it.

Been my observation that ultimately when 2 (or more) forums get into it, it usually turns into a shiznitheap real fast, and drives away good people.
ISSF vs. ImpalaForums comes to mind, and I wasn't even in on that fiasco.

Probably gonna ruffle more than a few feathers with this next statement...but here goes;

To most, the cars we know and love are nothing more than 2 door, 80's shiznitboxes. And ya know...mostly, they're right.
Then again...not everyone who owns a Fox is Chuck, Eric, Baxo, Tom, Carm..etc etc etc.

I have a POS Thunderbird...maybe in a few years, it won't be.
I'd still take it over some '80something Audi shiznitbox though.

But it just quite ain't enough to make me go sign up on some forum to make maybe 2 posts before getting banned...;)

You know how we feel about trolls here....karma's a bitch, at times lol

Has it occurred to a few of you posting over there that they can google your usernames and see your posts EVERYWHERE you used that username? So basically if they are smart they will figure this out. I will not be sticking around if this has become some sort of stupid war, I will be out of here REAL quick. This isn't high school anymore lets drop the drama bullsh*t, if someone doesn't like your car fighting with them and hurling insults is NOT going to change their mind. So they think the Cougar is junk, oh well. I have one and am not bothered by it, I'm not here driving my car to impress the (As FordTruckFreeek stated) the "$4.00 bottled water" group.

I agree, Beau, and I've said it many times (about how others view these cars). 3500+ pounds, 150 horsepower, automatic trannies, 2.73 or 3.08 gears, and suspensions that feel like they were hung with bungee cords do not add up to sporty. We love these cars because we prefer style over substance and because we see their potential (they were born with style, substance can be added). Not everyone shares those views. To 99.9% of the population these are big, underpowered $500 80's domestic shiznitboxes. Don't believe me? Just post a forsale ad on Craigslist for what you think your car is worth and wait to see how long it takes to get replies. And wait... and wait... and wait...

To those Audi owners 80's Cougars ARE POS's. Just like to most of us, 80's Audi's are POS's. And to most Civic owners everything else are POS's. That's why they have their forums and we have ours. And no matter how much it hurts, and no matter how much you disagree with the C4C fiasco, that Cougar IS the type of car C4C was meant to exterminate. It sucks, I know, but it's the truth.

The 80's in general will only be marginally better remembered than the 70's when it comes to cars. Aside from these cars everything was boxy and slow (these cars were just slow). Even the vaunted 80's 5.0 Mustang would easily be outrun by a modern Accord, Camry, or Fusion V6, and stock T-Birds and Cougars, even the Turbo Coupes, would be handed their asses by just about anything on the road today. 16 to 18 second quarter mile times may have been acceptable in the 80's, but in the 2000's it's laughable.

...But it doesn't matter. These cars aren't about speed, they're about style. Nobody would accuse a bone stock '57 Chevy of being fast, especially when compared to late 60's models, but people still love 'em. A '49 Merc, with its ~130 horsepower flathead V8, would be laughably slow even by 80's standards, but it doesn't bother '49 Merc owners. These cars fit into that category. Some people don't get it. They think it's all about performance. We know better.

Except for one thing, an 87 5.0 cougar does NOT qualify, its rated 19 combined.

Maybe an 87 grand marquis?

So you are right. I thought somebody posted in one of the other threads that the 87/88 Cougars qualified at 18MPG but the 87/88 T-Bird didn't at 19MPG. That's good news, looks like that 20th doesn't have a date with Obama's crusher after all...

*EDIT* I just checked fueleconomy.gov, and the 87 comes in at 19MPG, but the 88 V8 cat comes in at 19MPG. That extra ler makes the 88 qualify, I guess...
