Nice job. I replaced the rack in my Thunderbird and noticed a big difference.

Thanks.

Was yours leaking or showing signs of being bad?

Mine really looked fine to me, just a tiny bit of play at the pinion shaft. Ball joints and tie rod ends appeared tight, too. I guess when you add up insignificant play a few times over it becomes noticeable.

OH, I had said I had Sensa-trac struts to install, but they are actually Gabriels. Ride was very nice on them. I'm happy.

Mine looked fine with a slight bit of play in the shaft. The outer tie rods needed to be replaced so I figured I might as well do the whole thing. I replaced the rack, tie rods, and control arms (swapped stock arms for the loaded 03-04 Cobra lower control arms FRPP used to sell), and strut mounts at the same time. I had replaced the shocks/struts about a year before with Monroe Sensa-Tracs. After I replaced everything in the front end I found out how sloppy it was. It was literally a night and day difference. Like you said the little bit of play here and there adds up over all the components.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I used prothane rack mounts, and they really tighten up the steering feel. I don't recommend poly for everything, but for sway bar end links and rack mounts I really think they add a lot without sacrificing ride comfort.

You will be shocked I'm sure.

Save money and use rock auto for the parts. The ball joints from them were 1/2 price of local for example. I was able to do the whole front end except for a arm bushes for a lot less by using them.

Shifter surround version 2.1

Made a firm platform under the touchpad, and used brush (from ice sers LOL) on the gap at the shifter itself.

It came out acceptable this time around.

Still needs cleaning and detailing the black on the lower shifter!

Just got it aligned.

The guys at this shop are all gearheads and loved the TC.  I now have a new trusted establishment to take my stuff to for the things I can't or won't do myself.

Paradise Car Care in Ravenna.

The car drives SOoooo nice now. I am definitely keeping the restrictor in the PS high pressure side. I love the extra effort at speed, and it is not an issue at idle. This thing is making me forget the Milan right now! The keys are jumping up off the desk into my hand.

No biggie...just a slight bump in compression....time to start running premium! :)

Travis

As I think about it more I am pretty certain she will only see 93 octane once I get the new heads on. Travis is right.

I've been driving the bird again lately. I got the jumpy tach issue sorted out. It ended up one of my plug wires was too close to the coil pack power wire and was cross talking. Of course I figured this out after I bought a couple of new OE wire sets from Rockauto. Well, I have some proper spares for the future I guess.

The new IVR came in. I'll detail how I do that when I finish the heads.

I'm starting the teardown now. The plan is to modify the valve covers for 5/8" breather lines from each side over to a catch can. The air then will route back into the front of the air cleaner. I did a setup like this on the TR7 2.3 engine and it works well there.

I'll be mounting a new radiator bottle (Thanks 1Bad88tbird!) from a 3.8 car, and prettying up a couple of small things.

I am going to look at the turbo drain to try to stop the oil leak that started after the last change I made to it.

Finally I will shorten the downpipe an inch or so to tuck the exhaust tighter under the car, and add one more v-band to the bottom of it to make getting it in and out a little easier, and to combat a continuing exhaust leak there.

More parts...... longer pushrods. These SHOULD work, but I'll be checking before I bolt it together for good.

New lifters, I had one ticking occasionally, so I'll replace them all.

Intake gasket set for Explorer, should mate up to heads just fine.

New locating dowels.

Nice !

:)

Got it down to exhaust and front dress left to go.

I'm sure glad I took the time to wire in quick-disconnects! This is easier than having to mess with 16 brittle clips on the injectors.

Breaktime.

In looking things over I feel there is an excessive amount of oil in the intake. It is practically dripping wet.

I want to address that with a revision on the PCV side of things. It appears the mesh in the intake beneath the PCV valve isn't enough to filter the oil mist into droplets that fall back. It's just passing through and condensing in the upper intake.

I think I'll add a small condensation can in between the intake and the pcv to get more of the oil out before it gets sucked in. That's my first thought, anyway.

Yea it's a common problem more so with bigger intakes I ran a oil separator for a while now I just vent to the atmosphere
