Double post but I got a new stereo set up!

Custom box made by me and my uncle who is a carpenter, it houses 3 10" subs, just clears the trunk latches, made of out 5/8ths MDF. Its heavy! I managed to wrestle it in there myself but I regretted it soon after.

Amps:

Concept Mono 350 watt
Kaption Audio 2 channel (bridged) 400 watt

Subs:

Pioneer Premier
2 shiznitty no names to be blown and promptly replaced

I also put in a set of new 3.5"s for the front with bass blockers so I don't blow them.

Heh, nice. I was just catching up on this thread and noticed the front end and said "What!". Sorry to hear about it, that is/was a REALLY clean car. When I first got mine, I built a box for two 12's, and I had to slant the hell out of it to get it under the tensioners for the trunk lid, ended up with less than a quarter inch between the magnets and the bottom of the box, and the top of the box JUST rubbing the tensioner. For some odd reason I decided to build it with 3/4" MDF, and oh my! I don't think I could actually get it in the trunk alone the first couple times, but it's not too bad now, just awkward.

Looks good. fits pretty well.

I dont think Ill ever go back to a full size box again. After fighting them in and out its just not worth it to me. Plus I am kinda done with the "loud" stage. Senior year I had the loudest set up, looking back it sounded like ass over all but it hit.

The single 12" I have now, tucked in the side of the SHOs trunk is just enough. Some times I wish it had a little more at lower volume but I can deal with it.

When you replace those subs look at the aluminum faced MTXs. I ran 2 12" 7500 and they sounded a lot better than most other 12"s. In a 10" I bet they would be even better.

The full size of this box wasn't originally planned, I was just going to have something small-ish that would fit down in the spare tire space, but after seeing the size of the magnet on that Pioneer we decided to go a bit bigger.

Aluminum faced? Do you have a pic for reference? I've always liked MTX, decent sound for a cheap price.

Yeah those tensioners were kind of a pain to work around, the hinges were the worst though, good thing I went with 5/8ths then, I was going to get 3/4" but they were all out.

So I'm thinking the box weighs around 150 lbs, the rear end has a sag to it now lol, and the front end is a little higher than before.

Yeah, I was running two Thunder 6000's (Aluminum faced with ridges)with an old MTX Blue Thunder Pro 1502 amp,  that sucker put out over 400 Watts Peak at 4 Ohms! and 300 RMS Bridged at 4 Ohms.

I LOVED that amplifier, unfortunately, something went wrong with the inputs, seems like the board needs to be resoldered or something.

If you ever get the chance, pick one up, very powerful from a small package.

Is the amp mono? I'll have to check it out. I used to have two 10" Thunders in a MTX box and they sounded great but alas someone figured they needed them more than I did.

Here's a few more pics of the fitment and a little pre-winter clean on the car.

The mini spare tire should fit under here.

The white walls won't come much cleaner than that.

2 Channel rated at 150 RMS per channel, I ran it in bridged mode. Very powerful amp for it's size, made back in the day before the cheap Chinese knockoffs came out. The Thunder 6000's were Dual Voice Coil and man did they thump with that Amp. I switched to a new Rockford Fosgate P2002 and I was VERY disappointed at the lack of power. Couldn't come close.

If you want to get the same power nowadays you pretty much have to buy a 600W amp, because everyone uses the peak power to advertise, instead of the RMS.

Yeah, I just put the spare in the well and shoved the subs against the back seat. My friends loved it!

When I did my subs, I didn't want to go too overboard,  because I still needed the trunk space, but I was very happy with the 12's.

I am recalling the days when I had my 1985 IROC-Z. I had the rear trunk well filled with two big subwoofers and all the speakers in the factory locations upgraded with hi-po units. I had two large amps... One four channel amp to run the speakers in the factory locations and one amp for just the subwoofers only. I never had a sound system that loud again. After I traded my IROC-Z for another car, I inadvertantly fried the expensive amps when I was connecting inputs using an adaptor cord that was supposed to have an effective guide pin in it to keep from plugging it in wrong... But it didn't help. The round connector managed to override the guide pin and all the pins in the connector were clocked one pin off all the way around and it killed my amps. That was the last of the big sound systems for me. After that I just stuck with factory equipped sound systems.

In reference to my 1984 Tbird, that sound system sucks... Muddy muddy sound... Despite having the factory original stereo unit, I cannot wait to replace it... Guess I am way too spoiled with the Shaker system in my Mustang.

Heh, the previous owner of my car upgraded the deck to a Clarion CD/MP3 player, and the speakers to Alpine S Type...I've been spoiled since day one!

Not much to report, I installed some 6x9s in the rear deck Alpine Type S 85 watts rms. And I had the carb rebuilt last weekend, car runs perfect now, one pump of the peddle and I'm off, it used to take 3 or 4 and it would stall out when reversing down the driveway.

I'm really impressed with the guy who rebuilt it, he tuned it after and like I said before when running the motor is smooth as glass.

Here's two shots of his motor, he's a Ford guy and he pretty much does everything.

It's a 351 bored .30 over (I think), in a '65 Falcon, he also has the cleanest '68 Mustang fast back I've ever seen and a super clean '91 Fox with all the go fast goodies. If I remember correctly the Falcon runs 10s and the fox runs 11s.

That electric water pump is so cool, I've never seen one before.

Yeah it is purty, all of his cars are detailed like this, even his DD!

So today I installed a set of Alpine Type S 6x5s in the doors, I had to rout new wire thru the already full rubber baffles, that was a lot of fun..  However I noticed the Clarions in the dash have started to crackle already, I even put bass blockers on them. But I'm not really surprised as they were only 45 bucks, I'll replace them with a set of Alpines.

Car audio is almost done a few things on the list are:

carpet sub box
2 new 10" subs to replace the "Thumps" (They sound like shiznit)

Might do list:
capacitor

aftermarket equalizer (Space is the issue here as I'd like to mount 2 guages in the pod under the cd player)

tweeters mounted in the a pillar triangles (I'd make my own out of fiberglass)

And on Friday I might buy a flip up DVD player, I've always wanted one and I have the extra cash.

Then onto exhaust.
