Idling problem when cold ( '91 5.0)

I swapped a '91 cougar 5.0 into my CJ. It runs like a champ when it's warmed up.

The problem is it doesn't want to idle when it's first started. The idle seems to go up and down, then it will idle really low and die.

  Any tips would be great.:D

Like it hunting?

I assume something is not connected which will prevent a decent list of codes to be listed.  If everything is connected, pull codes.

I would first turn the key on and check the TPS green wire for less than one volt.
if it has more, remove TPS , file the holes oblong so that it can be installed and rotated either way to obtain the voltage.

next, I would fiddle with the idle a little bit.

The tps adjustment will improve this problem and you shouldnt have to bother the idle.

Why do the intake and throttle body look as if they are from an S.O 5.0?

I haven't got it reffed yet, but it will be streetable.

I'm not sure what the S.O 5.0 is?

The motor came out of a '91 Cougar.

The fuel pump is an electric I picked up at a napa store, using the ractory hard lines, with FI hoses to connect with.

Thats a pretty cool cj7 you got there. The first I have seen with a ford engine in it. Everyone usually does the 350. Nice to see something different. Cool jeep.

that is a stock 86-88 cougar engine. look at all the brackets and what not. He has a stock 150hp engine, not the 200+ from a mn-12 cougar or mustang.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Like I stated earlier, the engine was pulled out of a 1991 Cougar with an auto tranny. And I can tell you from driving it...it has more than 150hp.

My straight 6 had about 140hp, and this thing is way more powerful.

Oh,  and thanks Brian.:D

Have you checked fuel pressure? If its an aftermareket or in-line fuel pump it could not be putting out enough presseure.
