Idling problem when cold ( '91 5.0) March 01, 2009, 01:23:26 PM I swapped a '91 cougar 5.0 into my CJ. It runs like a champ when it's warmed up. The problem is it doesn't want to idle when it's first started. The idle seems to go up and down, then it will idle really low and die. Any tips would be great.:D Quote Selected

If everything is connected, pull codes.I would first turn the key on and check the TPS green wire for less than one volt.if it has more, remove TPS , file the holes oblong so that it can be installed and rotated either way to obtain the voltage.next, I would fiddle with the idle a little bit. The tps adjustment will improve this problem and you shouldnt have to bother the idle. Quote Selected

And I can tell you from driving it...it has more than 150hp. My straight 6 had about 140hp, and this thing is way more powerful. Oh, and thanks Brian.:D Quote Selected
