Check pressure @ the schrader valve on the fuel rail? Pulling the pump is a big pita.

X2...

If you have pressure, problem could be the injectors, possibly gummed/stuck from setting... Need to use a LED test light on the injector connector... It should blink while cranking, if it does, problem is injector related(expensive unless you can clean them or round up some good used ones)... BTW they are 2.3T specific, should be green top 30lb units  ... If no blink, you have a computer system issue, possibly a bad EEC relay, or maybe too much TPS voltage...

I would still recommend a pressure gauge, but if your turn on the ignition, then turn it off, push in the schrader with a screwdriver.

Did you get sprayed in the eyes with fuel?

I had a weird issue once where the pump fell off in my tank (Use lock nuts).  I could hear it run but no pressure to the rail.  It was right after I put a full tank of gas in it too, soo much fun.
