Can't tell exactly, but the body syle was around from 78-81.  We raced that style car on dirt tracks back about 15 years ago.  the fox chasis handled good on the dirt, but the car was just too heavy to keep up with the off brands (SBC in a properly built camaro... we had a overbuilt cage made of heavy-wall pipe... we were giving up close to 400 lbs...) It was always a lot of fun!  That's were I got the love for the fox body cars!

Is that a Zephyr (Mercury), or a Fairmont (Ford).  I see the Futura name on the side, and I thought that only went with the Fairmont.

It's not a Zephyr :hick: It's a '78-83 Fairmont Futura. Don't know the exact year, but one of the box Fox guys will likely be able to...

It's hard to tell exactly the year without a VIN or knowing what engine is in it. They all look almost identical. :hick:

I owned several of those back in the late '80s(buy and sell)...

From looking at the Motors Manual grill ID and what I remember, I belive it's a '82 or '83... the '78-'81 had a black out grill inside the checkers...

Don't even have to open the door...you could look at the bottom of the outside driver's mirror to get the last two numbers of the model year stamped in the glass. Works in most cases, unless it has glass from a leftover previous year or early glass from the next year (or doesn't have the number there, sometimes it's only on the pass. side glass). At least it gets you within 2 model years though.

The 'look on the taillight' trick used to work when car mfrs. changed them every year. That stopped in the mid-1970's for the most part. I've found that the mirror glass trick is much more accurate.

99% chance its a 200 six with an auto. I think I can see a column shifter in there.

the 200 i-6 is a great engine imo. i had an 81 fairmont with it, and i was always thinking that the car had stalled on me because it idled so smoothly and quietly. i misses it. :(
