not to hijack, but how hard would it be to import an aussie ford?

Not bad, unless you wanted to drive it on public roads. I know in Canada the import laws state a 15 year hold on models that don't have an equivalent version (as in it needs to have the same equipment and parts used in Canada's crash tests) already sold here. So you can import a late model RHD 350Z, but not a late model Skyline GT-R. I'm not sure what the deal is in the US.

There is a Ford engine distributor that is importing the NA version.

Not necessarily. I choose to drive a $400 Saturn shiznitbox because I've made my mind up that I'll never make a car payment again (Saturn was chosen because I have plenty of experience working on 'em and they don't rust in visible areas). I am debt-free and intend on staying that way for the rest of my life. Debt aside, even if I won the lotto I cannot think of a single new car I'd rather have than the money it would cost to buy it. New cars just don't float my boat. I'd do some awful damage to my bank account buying classic cars if I hit the lotto, tho...

I also decided to never buy an expensive used car again as price is no guarantee of reliability (as my Volvo taught me). A cheap shiznitbox daily driver frees up a lot of money that would be better spent elsewhere, and if it breaks something big I throw it away and buy another cheap shiznitbox.

Seriously, whenever I see a decent new car (such as the Dodge Magnum) I think to myself "I can't wait 'til those are $500 cars". With Dodge it won't take long :hick:

*EDIT* Oh, and as for the T-Bird, I choose to drive it because I like Thunderbirds. There are certainly easier and cheaper cars to love out there, but I likes me Fox Birds (and cats). There is not a new car out there that gets me going like these cars. Affordability has nothing to do with it.

This was my theory.  Then I worked at Ford and took part in the new car frenzy.  Now I'm back.  I like debt free much better.

33% depreciation in two years is hard to swallow.

I could afford the payments I just couldn't lay down $40,000 cash:hick: . I just don't have a new car right now because nothing RWD out there really interests me. I don't want to drive a cookie cutter Chager, Mustang, BMW, ect rear wheel drive car. That's whay I'm going to the auto ahow this weekend. Hopefully there's something there that I like.......probably not though.

I have a good paying job. I just refuse to pay alot of $$$ for something that I don't really like. I'd rather save my money. Hence why I bought the 95 T-bird. :hick:

hey, im the same way so i understand that. i refuse to have a car payment and owe nothing on my 3 vehicles. as for being debt free im looking at about 20 years given the mortgage payment.

i also belive that car is closer to 60grand than 40. you must have a darned great job if you can swing the payment on that your mortgage and all the other  life throws at you. good god great if you can but i know i make decent money and i have a great job and i know what a struggle it can be to make those ends meet. if i had the quan to buy a car like that i wouldnt have been forcet to sell the bird project when i spent all my extra savings on the stang. id have both and they certainly would be much better than they are now.

i personally would NEVER finance any car for more than 3 years. 40Gs at 72 months 5% is like 650. long time to make that payment. 60Gs your looking at around 970. dont forget insurance. dont forget you have to get approved for that. ive got about an 820 fico and i doubt i could.

i was just pointing out for whatever reason that it annoys me when people throw that around like that. you see it all the time and its annoying. someone claims poverty one week than the very next week a rare 9kmile turbo coupe comes up for sale for 10grand and the same dude is like "if that wasnt so far away id totally buy it" or whatever. we all can dream but shiznit we all need to live in reality too.

oh well sorry i said anything realy. im just being miserable. ive had the killer flu for almost 7 days now. its made me bitchy. i dont realy mean anything by it as to say, i dont mean to attack anyone. thats a shiznitty thing to do.

The thing about dreaming about cars is one day you actually buy the stupid thing *coughthecrownviccough*. I have automotive ADD so it took me a looooong time and a lot of test drives to decide on a car. Ultimately it was the "no payments" thing that spurred me. Shame302's points on that are all spot-on. Even if you can swing a payment, it's a long time and a lot of money. I decided I'd rather have the cash for mods (which I've done quite a bit already) and a future project car (that I am agonizing over what to get).

Oh hell 60K is waaaayyyy too much. 40k is the max I could afford making payments for 5 years. I do agree on not having debt. That's why I usually by old cars (excpet for my 88 T-bird I bought that because I like the car and I would have bought it no matter how much money I had). If i can't find anything I like better than my 95 I'm just going to save my money till someone finally makes something I like. The trick to being able to afford stuff is SAVING MONEY. I don't blow my money willy nilly. Even for the 88 I have a set budget on what I can spend. If I hit the limit that's it no more. There's more important things like utilities and other bills to worry about.

290 and 302 relate to how much power the engine makes. 302Kw=405hp.

From FPV's site for the Typhoon (FPV's version of the XR6 turbo. Like an SVT XR6). Yeah, that says Prodrive; the people who make Subaru's Rally Cars.

The F6 270 Turbo

The F6 270 Turbo. A 4-litre turbo-charged, intercooled, 24-valve double overhead cam six. The highest torque output of any production six ever built in Australia and one of the most powerful in the world. Through partnership with Prodrive and their mastery of turbo technology across F1 and World Rally, the development of our high performance turbo-charged FPV has changed performance cars forever. We created an engine with dramatically improved cooling and induction. The 50% larger (than XR6 Turbo) air-to-air intercooler and dual Ram Air system significantly reduces intake pressure into the turbo's compressor — allowing it to work more efficiently… and effectively.

The result. A fully engineered performance-driven power generator. Armed with double overhead camshafts and 4-valve aluminum cylinder heads, the F6 270 Turbo produces its maximum power of 270kW (362hp) at 5250 rpm. However, the real story is torque. All 550Nm (406lb/ft) is on tap from just 2000 rpm and remaining constant all the way through to 4250 rpm.

At time of launch, the highest torque output of any production engine ever built in Australia. Even more staggering is the engine's ability to produce 80% of its maximum torque at 1500 rpm and over 98% at 1750 rpm. Total Performance meets the turbo.

I just noticed that Australia spells Aluminium wrong too.

Boss 290 was a 4.6. Basically an 03-04 Cobra motor.  The new 5.4 is an N/a  version with 400+ hp.........Where the hell was this motor 3 years ago??!!!  GTO/Vette killer right there!
