Power Window Motor Tips

I just fixed my Son’s bad Window Motor on his 85 T-Bird.
Luckily it was only a worn out gear, $ 20.00 replacement part.
A lot cheaper than replacing the whole motor.

Here are the best 3 post I found on this site to find a fix for this.

I took some pics as I went along to help out the next person to enjoy this repair.

Or... a hole big enough for the extension.  The socket could just meet it inside at least on a couple of the holes.

Some can get by on this job by using the old gear and three 1/4" nuts. The edges can be sanded down.

Thanx for the pics.

BTW, I had a 1988 T-Bird Sport way back when. I found out that it was totalled shortly after trading it in. It still has the ignition switch recall to date.

Special thanx to EricCoolCats for showing me to this site.

I just did this on my 86 and had already fixed my sons 83. I only replaced the small inserts that break as the gears were still fine. These are the same set up as on my 65's, my 70, and 76 Birds. The other thing I did though was to take the motor apart and clean the contacts in the base. On my sons car if the window was left in a certain spot it wouldnt work. When I took it apart after the 3rd time I decided to open up the motor and look at it before putting in a new one. Glad I did as once I cleaned up the contacts and replaced the dew wipes it has been fine for the past year and a half.

extensions are generally assumed to be narrower than the socket you put on the end (in this case)

Exactly.  I was saying you could drill a smaller hole.

I tore into the door to get a look at whats going on.

The 2 clips that are glued to the glass to push it up and down have let go their bond.

I read on Coolcats, that no one has had any luck with glues and epoxys.

What about rearmirror epoxy?  Should bond to glass???

See if you can get a windshield epoxy, that's what I used on mine and it hasn't budged. However I baked mine in a paint booth for 3 hours, so you'll have different results.

hogwash,
and the topic has been here many times.

Want it to stay and never come off?
Gorilla glue (read the instructions and honor the amount you **NEED** , not what you think you need)

Want it to come off again one day for any reason you see fit>?
clear silicone.
