Number one top end noise maker is a worn cam, very common with poor maintance... Older(70s) NA 2.3s would often bust the skirt on the #1 piston...i've owned several turbocoupes and all of them had noisy top ends. even the ranger with a fully built head is noisy. i check it all the time.... all the lifters are good, the cam is good, the valves and springs and retainers are all good. they're just noisy sombithces.
