cfi to sfi Reply #15 – February 28, 2007, 02:57:51 PM You've got an AOD, and yes, it'll bolt to either a 5.0 OR 3.8For the work involved changing to SEFI, it'd be more cost efficient to swap in an EFI 5.0, more power, equal-or-better fuel economy, better exhaust sound, and on and on.Then you have the head gasket problems of the 3.8 to consider, as well. I think we ALL know the longevity of well maintained 5.0-the one in my 92 F-150 is still runnign strong at 290,000 miles, and it has never been pulled out, just the basic maintenance stuff, water pumps, fuel pump, O2 sensor, and the like. It has sure as hell lasted longer than the 3.8 in my Tbird. But, if you want to stay with the 3.8, it can be done, and has been before. Good luck! Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #16 – February 28, 2007, 03:39:39 PM The motor in the CVIP is a 5.0 EFI. It has somewhere close to 300,xxx miles on it too. Still strong. If you're going to do the work, i agree that a 5.0 may be eaiser. May we ask why you wana rid of CFI? Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #17 – February 28, 2007, 03:39:52 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the injectors on a SFI go into the heads? That means at least a head change, along with manifold, sensors, ETC. Put a V8 in. Good luck, Fred Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #18 – February 28, 2007, 03:42:58 PM I thought they went on a fuel rail but I may be wrong Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #19 – February 28, 2007, 04:05:07 PM Yeah, I think Fred is right about the injectors. Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #20 – February 28, 2007, 04:42:02 PM Yeah, I'm unsure. I've never acutally seen a 5.0 or done that much work to it. Only normal stuff to them, like routine maintnence Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #21 – February 28, 2007, 05:49:22 PM i wanted to get rid of my cfi because i thought sefi would be much better. but from wat it turns out sefi wouldnt help my car very much in horsepower. Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #22 – February 28, 2007, 05:52:42 PM For an easy fix, swap a 5.0 CFI onto it. The CFI body itself will help. I have one if need Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #23 – February 28, 2007, 08:21:47 PM Getting more power into a 3.8L can be about as expensive as the cost to get even more power from a 5.0L. Using the 5.0 CFI probably won't do much but dump more fuel in and decrease gas mileage. More fuel without more air (heads, exhaust) won't do much to benefit power. Quote Selected
cfi to sfi Reply #24 – March 01, 2007, 11:30:07 AM You could to some the CFI mods listed in scott's thread to it to get a few more. Again a 5.0 CFI will get ya a few, but not enough to be worth it IMO. Quote Selected
