Not everyone has a race worthy car, and I've only seen 1 drag helmet at Cat Jam.  And that one was on Cougar King's head flying past me at 110 mph on I-80.

My idea is for go karts on the night we don't have a "formal" dinner.  If we do the Angels for Animals on Friday, and if people are on their own on Saturday for dinner, I'd be willing to go to the kart place around the corner and embarass a few people.

i was just looking on line and the cost of the room at the rats roof is 89.99.... it was like $75 last year....  do they usually offer a better rate closer or is this just it?  or do you know any deals to put in ;)... i'm wondering if it costs more because it's the last weekend of july instead of the 2nd to last.....  closer to school getting back in maybe?  i dunno, just a thought

OOOH!!!  I'm a Eco Hypermiler :burnout: Not bad for 79mph on the interstate 2hours a day

I think you're right. I just checked for the weekend before CJ and the rates were $67-$80.

Don't know why the big jump though.

It's sort of funny because when I drove past the Red Roof the other day the rate on the sign was like $39.00  Just goes to show you how they raise the rates during vacation season.  Or, in our case, car show season.

Oh, also drove past Quaker City the other day and it looked like someone had plowed snow in some of the lots there, but I can't imagine what for.  Thier site says they're closing it & it looks like it will end up another industrial park.  I know the CJ 'Track Day' idea never would've happened anyway, but it does make me a bit sad that I don't have a track in my back yard anymore.  It used to be that from outside my house you could hear the cars running up at QC on clear summer nights.

Yep, Quaker City Raceway is now history. No drag race for you!

It's been all over the news for about the past week. The owner couldn't come to terms with any potential buyers...but as usual there was politics involved and another side to the story too. It was a nice track though...infamous for being about .2 too slow but otherwise was a nice facility. Such a shame.

OK, I got the tour finalized on Friday night. We'll be going from Red Roof to Angels For Animals location. I'll have a map on the website that you can download, and also we'll have hardcopies at Red Roof on Friday night.

The tour @ Angels starts at 7:00 pm. This will be public viewing hours but that's alright, nobody will bug us. The tour will last for approximately 30 minutes and will be hosted by Diane Less-Baird, who was the speaker last year at the pavilion. After the tour we can stay and mingle, look at the kitties and puppies, etc. They also have a very large pet store in the facility.

Diane also said that she saw our brick (from our donation last year) and it is WAY cool. Might be a good for a photo opportunity around it. ;)

So right now, the whole game plan looks like this:
FRIDAY, JULY 27
6:30 pm: Leave from RRI for Angels' facility.
7:00 pm - ?: Tour @ Angels, then head back to hotel.

SATURDAY, JULY 28
10:30 am: Leave RRI for Mill Creek Park, Youngstown.
11:00 am - ~4:00 pm: Picnic @ Slippery Rock Pavilion.
NEW INFO >>2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Tour of Fellowship Riverside Gardens within Mill Creek Park, for those interested
4:30 pm: Leave for Chili's, Southern Park Mall, Boardman.
5:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Car show @ Chili's.
9:00 pm-?: If sunny, back to RRI parking lot for pizza. If rainy, TGI Friday's or Applebee's for dinner.

SUNDAY, JULY 29
11:00 am: I will be @ RRI lot to collect digital photos.
12:00 noon - ?: Go-Karts!!!

Plans are, as always, subject to change. But I think this is a pretty solid game plan. As we get closer to the event there is usually a little tweaking so stay tuned for updates.

Thanks everyone! I hope you can make it this year.
