Quarter drain hole

The drivers side quarter panel seems to have a drain hole, but its plugged with a rubber plug (or something). This side has been getting water in it for the last couple years and just curious if the plug was supposed to be pulled long ago. The passenger side has nothing though. Any reason why?

The plug is supposed to be there, the other one probabally fell out, find where the water is getting in before your car decays.

There isn't a drain area at all on the passenger side though...

About where the water's getting in, before I thought it was the weatherstrip but turns out thats not it...it isn't through the tail light either. The moulding mounting holes on the side are covered with aluminum tape and primer. There really isn't a logical place the water's coming in and looking in the trunk after pulling in from the rain shows no runs. Its a pita to find the thing

Mine does the same thing.  Water in the spare tire well.  I just drain it every now and again.  My weatherstriping is in perfect shape too?  I havn't located it yet.

Rear window seal...or the trunk corner seal, in the perimeter rim up by the hinge. Sometimes spraying some rubberized undercoating along the bottom edge of the trunk rim helps.

I have an 87 XR7 and was having the same problem. After 9years I
found it to be the marker light. The light screws into the 1/4 panel
theres a gasket between the light and 1/4 panel.

I agree with Eric - rear window seal. They tend to become unsealed (sometimes to the point the rear window rattles). My '88 has this same problem

Ah HA....that is a very good observation! I really never deemed that likely until I read your post. Might want to add that to the list of things to check. Nicely done.

But he has a Thunderbird, and Thunderbirds don't have that marker light...
