Little air cleaner issues

Soon my car's going to get a Holley Street Avenger to replace my old Motorcraft 2150.  I know the stock air cleaner won't fit on it because I tried using an air cleaner riser one time and it would not fit on my carb without major modifications and the air cleaner, when sitting on top of it, left a crescent shaped gap.  Apparently for some reason Motorcraft made their carbs wider at the  than everyone else in the universe (the spacer was a Holley).  I've looked on Summit for a closed donut style air cleaner like mine but they only have like a million OPEN donut style filters.  I'm under the impression that my stock piece that connects to the fender well is better than the old style that takes in hot "engine air".  I know some of you have non-stock carbs installed on your engines, what did you do about the air cleaner?
