Tryin to get my WOT shift points higher July 25, 2006, 07:52:46 PM Hey all. I noticed a little something on my car the other day and was curious about it. When I beat the snot out of the demon in D as opposed to OD she will hold onto the gears just a bit longer (I get about 300 more RPM in D than in OD)WOT throttle shifts give me 5200 RPM 1-2 shift in D. For a full out track run I'd have to do the ol' 1-D shuffle for the best time slip. I don't feel like doin that. I'd like to get a nice 5500-5600 RPM shift point on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift WITHOUT pulling my tranny apart and playing with the governor which is supposed to allow for 5500 RPM in stock form anyway. I saw a post that Tom put up:Quote from: TurboCoupe50Shortning the cable will delay and firm up the shifts....To adjust mine I block the throttlebody open, then pull the TV cable till the tranny lever is at full travel and lock 'er down... Done deal, been working like that for almost 7 years... 1-2 shift is still about 17-18 mph, but it won't shift to 3rd till past 30 mph and then only if I lift the throttle, otherwise it shifts about 35... Remember I have 3.73 gears, it would shift probably 5-8 mph higher with say a 3.08 gear... Just have to try to see what works best for you...Tom's shift point are what mine are with 3.27 gears as opposed to his 3.73's So Tom if you're around....with this setting you have, at what RPM's are your WOT shifts? I know that generally tightening the cable will give you more RPM's, but at this point am I gonna get any more? Quote Selected
Tryin to get my WOT shift points higher Reply #1 – July 25, 2006, 10:52:11 PM Tightening the cable will/should make it shift later. Open the throttle all the way(WOT) and grab the tip of the T/V cable were the end sticks out toward the frt of the car. If you can pull the cable out more you still have some adjustment. Tryin to get my WOT shift points higher Reply #2 – July 26, 2006, 12:24:00 AM IF the TV cable is pulled out 100% when the throttle is 100%open, then that all she's got. In other words, any more than that and the TV cable will prevent the throttle from opening all the way.Do you have a shift kit? Changing the governor will raise shift rpms by I believe 300rpms. Your other option would be a new VB to change the shift pattern to 1-2-3 with electronic OD lockout, which is the setup I currently have. Quote Selected
Tryin to get my WOT shift points higher Reply #3 – July 26, 2006, 09:09:40 AM It's got a TransGo shift kit in it. I kept the stock governor, however. Anybody know where I'd be able to get one that would give me the few more RPM's I want? Quote Selected
Tryin to get my WOT shift points higher Reply #4 – July 26, 2006, 03:04:25 PM Your local Ford dealership, you need part number E8ZZ-7C063-A. Swap that out and you will get your higher shift point. Quote Selected
Tryin to get my WOT shift points higher Reply #5 – July 26, 2006, 03:41:07 PM Are we talking about the governor that's on the output shaft, in the extension housing? (I assume we are?) --Ed Quote Selected
Tryin to get my WOT shift points higher Reply #6 – July 26, 2006, 04:37:58 PM The transgo shift kit should have had one with it. If you tossed it, then I believe I have mine leftover from the transgo shift kit that I never installed the governor. Quote Selected
