May not have a job much longer...

Well, ive been at my place of work for about 2 months now, my boss overall is a cool guy, untill its time for him to be a boss, no matter what, he finds a reason to bitch at me..not working fast enough, work isnt good enough, not knowing what im doing, asking someone for help other than him

well, this man, every time i mess up, is in my face, cussing and screaming at the top of his lungs, and i just stand there, look him dead in the eye and just nod, today things went different

today he wanted me to change out some broken door hinges on the door of a trailer, no big deal, the shop foreman showed me what to do, and i was knocking it out, getting it done, not very fast since it was my first time, but getting it done, and then break time comes up, my boss walks by "you get that door hung yet?" i told him no, and no big issues, then he walks by and gets an attitude with me because i was really sick, and i had my dad call in sick for me

so around lunch, he comes out, door is hung, just needed some tweaks and whatnot, and he said "the hinges need washers" i said something like "oh, jack told me i didnt need em" and he blew up cussing screaming, in my face, just about spitting on my face, i about turn my back to him, then look back at him, rolling my eyes at him and letting him blow up, then i just got fed up with it and started yelling back, basically telling him to stop yelling, to shut up and back off, and whatnot, turned into a g contest, then i said "f*** this, im getting my shiznit and going home" he said "fine, go f***ing punch out and go the f*** home"

so i cleaned up my mess, put my tools away, returned tools, punched out, and peeled out the best a 3.8 could and hightailed it home, since i was pissed

i guess ill find out if i have a job tomorrow morning
It's Gumby's fault.

You sue his ass for cussing and screaming at you creating a environment you couldnt work in, its called harrasment. He can certainly tell you what to do but he cannot scream and cuss at you.

You may be surprised. I quit my first job as a mechanic regularly, packing up my tools and going home (once with a customer's car still on my hoist and in pieces). I didn't take shiznit off anybody, and believe it or not, the service manager, the guy that kept driving me to quitting, admired that in me. Every time I quit he'd call me on the celly while I was driving home and ask me to come back.

I actually ended up getting along with him better, especially after I heard him tell a customer that had just complained about an apprentice working on their car that I was the best tech in the shop when it came to electrical issues. It was actually strange when I did quit for real - he didn't believe me until my last day there that I was actually quitting.

That aside, if your boss is any kind of man, and you can usually tell by the way people who work for him talk about him (or stick around for years), you'll still have a job and he'll probably end up with more respect for you. If he isn't, you don't want the job anyway.

Dude, I know I told you to hang in there earlier, but that guy sounds like a real tool.
I would have done the exact same thing you did.
Nobody deserves to be yelled at like that... that's just simple-minded ignorance on his part.

Reminds me of the father on American Chopper.  Or the shop foreman on American Hotrod (that's the one with Boyd Coddington, correct?  Speaking of pen 15s...)

boyd coddington isn't a prick from what I've seen, he just has a few dumbasses working for him. he's running a business, and can't have people screwin off like they do.

of course it could all be TV :p

Don't feel bad man,  I get yelled at from time to time too.  Good thing I work for women though.  Thats the only thing that keeps me from decking my boss sometimes.

No way in hell I'd take that kind of abuse from an employer. Being yelled at once in awhile is one thing.. but this guy sounds  near insane.

Worst thing to happen to me on a job was the boss' father (bigtime born-again bible-thumper) trying to convert me. Took all my control not to flip out on him. Being screamed at on a regular basis would put me beyond my ability to control my reaction.

Shawn, it's just not worth it. If you did get fired, go celebrate :)

I don't take to yelling well at all. When my parents start screaming, I leave and tell them when they can talk to me like civilized humans, give me a call.

I'd probably use a similar method on a jackass boss, but more like: "I quit! If you decide to grow up and act like a civilized human and want me to come back, give me a call"

yes, i did get fired, and im  glad i did

i went in, id a few tasks on the clock, and was waiting for him to come in, instead he calls the parts guy, and has him tell me i was fired, i walked around the shop, shook everyones hand, said my goodbyes, got my tools and left

the guys were actually shocked that i was fired, because im a hard worker, and a good kid, i was the first person they would come to if they needed a hand, because they knew i was fully capable, and im easy to work with, so the boss pissed a few guys off in the shop by firing me

i would go celebrate, but at the moment im broke, which REALLY sucks ass, i was supposed to pick up a check today, but i left before the boss showed up, so this friday im picking up my checks, and hopefully he'll have the balls to say something to me face to face, without me working there
