1988 tbird red?

My second tbird i bought for 150 dollars seeming to give me lots of trouble, not to mention people keep adding to it. Someone broke header panel and someone else took it for a spin without me bolten my lights in, hence they all fell off on the highway. Not to mention transmition blew and i found damage and rust from accidents on the car.

Well i found a 88 tbird i think i can talk the guy down to 1500 i think, he is asking 1649. Looks in great condition. What are the possibility for interior colors? That bright red is what i am hoping to avoid.

mike969mb,
Somebody may correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if a red interior in a red car isn't your thing, then you're only left with gray/graphite, which seems to be the most plentiful interior color.  I would personally prefer the red over the gray, but I've never liked gray interiors.  I guess a beige-interiored red car isn't out of the question, but I've sure never seen one.  Again, somebody may have some info otherwise, but I think gray is your alternative.

That is a nice looking Tbird, even has turbines already, even.
I'd give 1500 for it, especially as it appears to be a Sport...:D

Actually, I've seen more red interior Foxes than any other color.
So far, I've seen red, raven and gray, blue, and very occasionally, tan.

I too don't care for the Porno red, I've changed mine to raven/gray in my Tbird.

I like the poro red interior in my Thunderbird because it's different - you can't get coloured interiors anymore. You're stuck with black, light grey, dark grey, or beige. The only thing I hate about it is that porno red seems to fade worse than any of the other colours.

I'm gonna be changing mine to blue, though, simply because my parts TC has perfect blue seats and a perfect blue dash. I might dye 'em black or dark grey, though, and go two-tone.

As for colours of the interior in that T-Bird, if it's original red paint, the interior will be either porno red, grey or beige/tan. Since that one is a sport (blacked out window trim) it might have raven, too...

they're rather easy to change, I've done mine a time or 3...
The dash is the worst, though, may as well put a new heater core in, while ya have it out, too.

According to the '88 dealer album only three interiors were available with red. They were scarlet red, raven(black) and medium grey. My TCs both have the raven interior, which is my favorite...

In my own case, I will be replacing the dash. Mine developed a crack awhile ago and it has grown. While certainly not the worst cracked dash I've seen in these cars (although until mine I'd never seen one in person), it is still a crack, and it bugs me. Does it bug me enough to warrant replacing the whole ed thing? Not yet, but combine that with the fact that I've also got blue TC seats, door panels, etc to go in I'll just replace the whole interior (and take advantage of the interior being out to weld in the SFC's and strengthen the torque boxes).

The only big problem I have with the blue interior in the TC is that the headliner has been cut out for an aftermarket sunroof. I'm still trying to decide if I want to install the aftermarket roof in the T-Bird, but if I don't I'll have to keep my red headliner. My red carpet is in much better shape than the blue one in the TC, too. Since the TC interior is dark blue I may dye it black and do a two-tone thing.

As for your problem: Why are you even considering it? :D That red Sport looks well worth $1500, and is a nice colour to boot. And if you think fox T-Birds are hard to find in FLA, try finding them in NS. I think Oldraven's arriving here nearly doubled the population in the province...

Porno red here... I love it.  Gota throw a few black parts in to break it up though.

I'm not sure on the Bright Red, but I've seen at least 3 Medium Red Clearcoat metallic TBird's with tan interiors.

Hey Thunderchicken, you know you can buy new carpet kits for these cars and that any decent upholstery shop would recover your red headliner blue for under $150 right?? I just don't want to see another nice TBird die to an aftermarket sunroof.

...Says the guy that wants to put an AMC engine in a TC :rollin:

Joking apart, how will an aftermarket sunroof "kill" the car? I know it will destroy the originality, but the SFC's, CHE suspension, and future T-5 swap and engine upgrade will kinda take care of that anyway

No, not originality, structurally. I know you're planning SFC's and what not, but I've had to send 4 TC's to the crusher over aftermarket sunroofs so I hate them with a passion. Ine car had exactly 101K miles on it, Gunmetal, raven leather, AUTO, gorgeous car. One of the tires didn't touch the ground it was f-ed up so bad. Never been hit, it just "twisted". Like I said, you should be OK cause of all the strutural improvements, but I've yet to see an aftermarket sunroof car that didn't have at least some suspension/frame/alignment problems. Crawling around under my factory moonroof car and under my hardtop, I've noticed alot of extra gusseting that Ford installed. Just be careful, you can't un-do a hole (well, maybe a REALLY expierenced and expensive bodyman might, but still). I'm not doing anything to the AMC car that can't be un-done and put back to stock (except for the SFC's, which are always welcome). Just my 2c of observation...
